Major Eruption Imminent? Earthquake Swarms Reported At Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier And Mt. St. Helens

Seems the plasma chambers of all three are filling up. Does that mean they're going to blow. Or just fill empty space. In spite of all the research, scientists still don't have a real way to estimate possible eruptions.

Scientists assure us that someday Mt. Rainier will experience another massive eruption, and it will be an apocalyptic event unlike anything the northwest United States has ever experienced before. Let us just hope and pray that we have a lot more time until that happens, because nobody should ever want to witness death and destruction on that scale.

Unfortunately, the crust of our planet is becoming increasingly unstable, and the west coast of our country sits directly along the Ring of Fire. It is only a matter of time until a major seismic event strikes, and it may be a lot sooner than a lot of people think.

Swarm of small quakes recorded under Mt. Hood

“You have a whole bunch together, it’s called a swarm,” Burns explained. “Anytime you have a swarm under an active volcano, it’s a sign that magma is moving up.”

But the USGS says swarms like this are fairly common on Mount Hood, happening once or twice a year. This one occurred near a vent where swarms are normal.

Mount Hood hasn’t erupted since the 1700s.

Not at all unusual activity. Now if those were harmonic tremors, that would be a differant matter.

Is it going to Blow?

The odds given for an earthquake were, for the next 50 years, a 30% chance of an 8.0 - 8.6 earthquake, and a 10% chance of an 8.7 - 9.2. A big one there happens every 243 years, on average, and the last one was 316 years ago. The worst shaking will be offshore, so the tsunami is the real hazard. Seattle is far enough up Puget Sound to be safe from that, but Washington and Oregon on the Pacific coast get wiped out.

The biggest earthquake ever was in Alaska wasn't it..like 5 minutes of shaking.

I was in the California 1989 earthquake and live 5 miles away from the epia center , that was frightening. I want to move.

We used to think Oregon and Washington was safe from earthquakes.

.

Actually, the biggest one was in Peru. The Alaska quake of 1964 was second biggest. And, yes, when the Cascadia subduction zone unzips, it will be a very big one.

Hey Ray........so given your location, would you and your family have to cut? Seems that volcano is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too close for comfort//////////or are you far enough away that the ash isn't going to impact you?

Were Hood to go active, it could impact us. It would take a St. Helens size blast to do it, however. In most cases, if it were just a middlin' eruption with a lot of ash, most of the time the wind is from the west, so we would not get ash. However, a St. Helens type blast would present a major danger as we are only 80' above the level of the Colombia, and the river systems around Hood all drain into the Columbia. There would be a tremendous mud, water, and debris flow into the Colombia both above and below the Bonneville Dam.

Interesting..

Mount Hood and Mount Saint Helens are both experiencing ground deformation at the base. Areas of rise greater than 1 foot have occurred in the last 30 days according to USGS.

Lets add this up..

Ring of fire under massive stress along the Cascadia range.
Areas along St Andres fault have 3 feet of twist.
Rise of land mass in two of three major volcano's
Continuing quake swarms, indicating moving magma...
Evidence of 'chuging' and harmonic tremor in all three volcano's (even Yellowstone has been showing signs of activity)

Interesting times ahead... Cali is over due for a major quake by 10 years..

The rubber band is stretched tight, just where will the break happen?

40 Volcanoes Are Erupting Right Now As The Crust Of The Earth Becomes Increasingly Unstable

The reports keep coming in and the media ignores them. Most people could care less, even though they might live closer than they realize. And, if one's going to go, just what do you think YOU can do about it?

When there are major volcanic eruptions or major earthquakes in other parts of the globe, many Americans don’t seem to care too much because they don’t think that this rise in global seismic activity is any sort of a threat to them personally.

But the truth is that the entire west coast of the United States lies along the Ring of Fire, and virtually every other section of the Ring of Fire is roaring to life these days.

At some point, there will be historic earthquakes on the west coast.

At some point, there will be historic volcanic eruptions on the west coast.

Scientists assure us that these things are inevitable.

So let us certainly hope for the best, but putting our heads in the sand and pretending that these dangers do not exist is not going to help matters one bit.

Get prepared while you still can, because at some point time will run out.

No doubt caused by man.

OMG...I went to High school up there , loved it.. We always thought that the earthquakes only happened in Calif.

Is it going to Blow?

.
They've been talking about this exact earthquake for 50 years here. It is definitely going to happen, but no one knows when... I'm skeptical of OP's claim that it is going to happen with a year because we've heard that before. Not sure if it's related to climate change either.

Every time I go to the coast, I can't help but notice all those tsunami hazard signs.

I always keep one eye peeled for the closest hill.

Seattle is probably far enough away to escape harm unless the wind is blowing an odd direction. MY first day in Washington St. Helens blew. First thing in the morning me and a buddy went on a motorcycle ride doing the Cascade loop. We left a hour hour before.

Started out OK but over the Cascades it was "foggy" as hell. At least that's what I though. Visibility was bad but we soldiered on. Then saw lots of cars crapped out at the side of the road. Our air cooled bikes had no problem and finally found out at a gas station what happened.
