Under the 'U' Visa Program if an illegal aides law enforcement in getting a prosecution of Americans for certain crimes - whether legit or not - they get to stay in the united states.
Instead of punishing proven criminal Americans and still treating illegals as what they are - criminal illegals - our government is actually rewarding illegals for entrapping and getting Americans convicted in order to allow them to stay in the US.

The U visa, created as part of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000, allows the alleged victims to remain in the U.S. while assisting law enforcement, and they can then become eligible to adjust to lawful permanent resident status.
