I am no apologist for Byrd but he was not a member of the KKK when he died nor for decades before his death. Obviously Obama thought Byrd had made changes in his life that warranted forgiveness and reconciliation.

I only wish the left applied the same standard to the founders of this country...they were racist slave holders who deserved to die...blah blah blah. Any reason to glorify the politicians. People wouldn't feel the same way if this was someone not in power. Would you feel comfortable hiring someone who attended the funeral of a KKK member?

The first part of you sentence is wrong. The second part is right because Lyndsy Grahm is probably best friends with him. Why is it people like Lynsy Graham and Bill Clinton make a close political alliance? Why is they both attend the funeral of a former KKK member and don't feel weird about it?
