I think America is in the 2nd Civil War, but like the situation with the Soviet Union, it is a Cold War. Just like the Soviet Cold War, there are factions taking political and economic stances and actions in order to harm the other. The factions are Democrat/Liberal/Progressive vs Republican/Conservative/Libertarian. There are millions of moderates who are stuck in the middle of these two.
And UNLIKE the 1st Civil War the the Cold War, there are no uniforms or geographic boundaries. The combatants take the form of normal citizens, like the War on Terror against Al Qaida, who do not wear uniforms or belong to an Army of any type.
It seems our country is getting more tense, more "on edge". People are arming themselves. People are quietly wishing harm on the other groups, maybe not physically, but wanting them to fail to get their goals met.
I think we are indeed in a Cold Civil War. And it is going to end badly, like the Cold War vs the USSR did.
