Is it time for Universal Healthcare....and can it be done?

Something has to be done to fix the disaster we are in now

Which isn't to say that "anything" should be done. Or to imply that "anything" is better than nothing. Doing something that would make things worse, for example, should NOT be done.

What's done is worse I had good insurance before Obamacare
It was probably about to crash anyway... Hi deductibles and catastrophic coverage was just the way things were going. You were probably due for a downgrade... The problem in the US is out of control costs. Thanks GOP!
Now I have high premiums High deductibles and no coverage

A catastrophic plan would have been cheaper, but they need your money to pay for all the mooching deadbeats.

Anyone that thinks universal healthcare is the answer, why not try the VA system. Ask a few vets how it works.
If you have half a brain, you’ll be changing your mind.
—-Or; talk to some Canadians. The truth about their system is worse than our VA system.

This Canadian is quite satisfied with our system. I've had 2 major encounters with the system. One was a herniated disc. I was refered to a neurosurgeon within 1 week and on the table 5 days after that. The operation cost $20 for parking.

The other was a hip replacement. saw 4 ortho specialists. 3 days in hospital. 3 weeks of 3 times a week at home physio. About $100 for parking, cable TV and internet.

Hawaii Sen exposes GOP!

“Hi everyone. I’m Senator Brian Schatz, from Hawaii.

Republicans are trying to take away your health care. Now, if you are not a hardcore Democrat, you would be reasonable to take that statement with a grain of salt, and do your own analysis and research before taking my word for it. After all, how could there be an entire political party devoted to taking away something that matters so much to so many people?

I can’t explain their motivation, but I can tell you that this is really what’s happening. Republicans are working at all levels of government to take away people’s health care.

Let’s start with the states. Twenty Republican state attorneys general are fighting in the courts to undermine our health care system and take away protections for patients. That includes people who have pre-existing conditions. And as of today, Republican governors and Republican-controlled legislatures have stopped 17 states from expanding Medicaid, which means they’re denying 2 million Americans affordable health care.

The Trump administration is fighting in federal court to take away protections for people with pre-existing conditions. They’ve ended a program that keeps insurance companies from discriminating against the sick. They’re sabotaging insurance marketplaces to make it more expensive, and they’re re-defining health plans so they don’t cover basic things, like prescription drugs and maternity care. And now they’re imposing bureaucratic red tape to make it harder for people who need Medicaid to get Medicaid.

In the Congress, it’s even worse. Republicans have tried at least 70 times to curb, change, or cancel the Affordable Care Act. They have tried to pass budgets that would cut Medicaid by $1 trillion and Medicare half a trillion dollars.

And now they are trying to push through a Supreme Court justice who will end protections for people with pre-existing conditions. President Trump has already joined a lawsuit to get rid of protections for pre-existing conditions, and now he wants to appoint someone to the Supreme Court who could tip the balance on this case.

No matter where you look, they are relentlessly trying to take away your health care and raise costs for everyone. But we can stop them.

We Democrats believe that health care is a right, and we believe that everyone should be able to get the care they need, no matter where they live or what their economic situation is. People shouldn’t be punished for being sick. If you’ve had cancer, if you’ve struggle with a mental illness, if you’re pregnant, an insurance company shouldn’t be able to deny you affordable health insurance. Now we’ve won the battle together before when Republicans tried to take away people’s health care. But we are going to have to mobilize again.

If this Supreme Court nominee gets through the process, it will be harder than ever for Americans to access health care. It will be harder for women to access reproductive care. It will be harder for patients to keep the protections that they deserve and need. That’s why this fight is so important. There is too much at stake to do nothing. So please raise your voice and join us in the fight for health care.”

I would not have minded sitting down and discussing possible universal health care in the future as an OPTION. I am less open to it now, after Barak Obama's administration destroyed existing Health Insurance, forcibly stripping people of their chosen plans (it was NOT a choice) and forcing them to comply with the government's new mandate to buy the gov't new defined/created plans.

Like mice in a maze, the American people have been driven down a maze with only illusion of free choice anymore.

Before he was elected President Obama spoke to a crowd and declared he wanted Single Payer health care, which of course his liberal media overwatch denied...and years later, as Harry Reid declared it to be, Barry set Single Payer in motion by destroying the e listing health care system and replacing it with one designed to fail, leading to single payer.

Obama's mandate that every American purchase Obama care was sorta like the militarized Dept of Land Management pointing sniper rifles at the heads of women / children and 'encouraging' them to leave so Harry Reid could use those public lands in a deal to enrich himself....

It's worth noting that Obama mocked the idea of a mandate when debating Hillary in the primaries. Arguably, it was why he beat her. He made her look like the corporatist she is.

And then his shocking(!) reversal after he was elected. Whodathunkit?

In college Barry wrote he learned to be a chameleon - everything to everyone to get what he wanted.

Everything that showed people who he was was right there....people just did not want to see it.

Barry was an ADMITTED tutored student if Communist Frank Marshall Davis, student of Socialist Saul Alensky - he quoted 'Rules for Radicals' during his Inauguration. He was mentored for at least a decade by racist, hate-spewing, anti-American 'pastor' who taught not 'God bless America but 'God D@mn America'. Barry's buddy was an unrepentant domestic terrorist who killed his fellow Americans -1st Responders.

The media ran an entire campaign telling Americans 'His past does not matter' - focus on the fact that he was the 1st Black to be President. Barry ADMITTED these things were true...and the 'chameleon' slid into office where he aided and abetted Al Qaeda, ISIS, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood, HAMAS, the Taliban, Iran, Russia, Mexican Drug Cartels, MS13, human traffickers ... While violating both Constitution and Rule of law.....

Remember the 1946 Tort Reform act says you can't sue doctors on government payroll.
Consequently less than half the doctors practice defensive medicine as they KNOW they won't get sued.

But non-government physicians 92% order duplicate tests, etc. practice defensive medicine and the COST is paid by the insurance companies as they simply raise the premiums.
Remember all insurance companies are regulated by states.

All states require companies to have reserves for future claims.

Reserves come from premiums that aren't used to pay claims...
(average insurance company pays out about 80% of premiums in claims...
i.e. defensive medicine included) and of the balance of 20% revenue pays salaries, etc.

AND then if any profits add to reserves... and then any profits left out of the 6% after salaries, etc., taxes reserves... Again a major reason many companies pulled out of Obamacare because the idiots forced companies to pay 85%...i.e. called medical liability ratio.
Left no money for profits which are used to build reserves required by states!
Very few doctors are on government payroll d u h

There are 32,468 medical doctors in all specialties employed throughout the federal government with positions available in many agencies.
Federal Physician Jobs | Working as a Physician at the VA

In 2013, there were over one million doctors of medicine all over the United States
Topic: Physicians

That works out to 3%.

So you are all in favor of lawyers causing nearly $850 billion a year in defensive medicine practices which add up to wasted expenses is that right?
Not at all. Kill the lawyers LOL

we have 300 billion dollars in waste in just services that patients dont need. when you add it up, there's 1 trillion dollars in health care waste.

my right-wing opponents will talk about the great care and the innovations, but those go to the rich. we have a 1 trillion dollar problem. we're dying out here. single. payer. now.

That is the way Healthcare was going before Obama --catastrophic insurance with High deductibles. It just gave poor workers and and low income Medicaid and affordable insurance with subsidies. Breaking for silly GOP dupes: 75% on the exchanges got enough subsidies so that they paid $100 or less. Guaranteed with a annual cap is not cheap.

Congress changed it not him.

BS....

Built on horrific lies, mandates enforced through govt punishment, choice was stripped away.
Yeah that's horrible I'm sure. There is no mandate now so be a dumbass and don't get it see if I care... Obama didn't want a
mandate, Congress added that. Of course he was supportive.

Deductibles and catastrophic insurance was the way it was going.... Take your meds. No mandate now...
THE ACA WILL NOT COST A DIME.

THE ACA WILL PAY FOR ITSELF.

THE ACA WILL LOWER THE COST OF HEALTH CARE.

IF YOU LIKE YOUR PLAN / DR. YOU CAN KEEP THEM.

OBAMA WAS / IS A HUGE F*ING LIAR ... OR HE WAS TOO INCREDIBLY STUPID TO KNOW THESE WERE HUGE LIES HE COULD NOT DELIVER ON...

SO WHICH IS IT - HUGE F*ING LIAR OR INCREDIBLY STUPID?

So instead of answering which one you just 'laugh' and refuse to answer, huh Franco?

Thought so.....

Barry isn't stupid. He lied his ass off, and morons like you were / are left defending the indefensible...

Nobody ever said the first three except on Fox and Rush... Pure BS
Obama did not lie, Congress changed what he wanted when they wrote their law. Not many people lost their doctors and many did it to themselves on their applications, not not knowing which health network was which...
