Is New York City the Next Detroit?

the state of california wil be the next detroit. maybe we could sell it to mexico for a few hundred barrels of oil. or maybe a truck load of tortillas.

I don't know about the state, but the City of Los Angeles is WELL on it's way. Same kind of abandonment of property and the same entitlement mentality.

You folks are truly delusional.

The entire country sticks it's stinking hands into the new york pie.

Hey Swallow, here's ya stinking pie back beatch, and tell al sharpton it's blueberry...

Los Angeles has considered bankruptcy several times but cut maintenance to pay the pensions. LA is one breakdown away from being the next Detroit.

OP- Nope, because a-hole Pubs will never get in to NYS to feck over the cities, partially for the profit of some Wall St. bankruptcy lawyers, and to screw the unions, in technical terms...

while NYC definitely has it's problems with union pensions and benefits and those are ballooning I do not see them to be the next Detroit or even the next after next.

Is New York City the Next Detroit?

Shortly, New York may be ruled by a governor who helped cause the financial meltdown, while New York City may have a mayor who was forced to resign from Congress and its comptroller will be a former governor who was forced to resign for transporting a prostitute across state lines. He will be replacing the current comptroller who may go to jail for campaign finance fraud.

All of that sounds like an elaborate setup to a punch line. And it is.

New York State has the 33rd highest unemployment rate in the country. New York City’s unemployment rate is even higher at 8.3%. In June, New York City, with a population of 8 million, added just 3,100 jobs. Most of those jobs were in the city’s tourism trade which bulks up during the summer.

While Bloomberg was playing hooky, using city resources to push gun laws in other states, the specter of Motown was creeping over the Big Apple.

New York City comes in second on the list of cities with the largest unfunded pensions. After Detroit.

lol. having the 33rd highest unemployment rate would be very good. it actually has the same rate as the United States as a whole, at 7.5%

I can't see it, too much money goes through New York.

If that's true then the city wouldn't be behind on pensions?

Unless there's some massive amounts of theft going on, in which case you make a moot point.

The point being that NYC is the financial capital on North America, and the diplomatic capital of the world, and that isn't going to change just because Bloomberg spent too much on blue bicycles or whatever.

Progressivism as Democratic Totalitarianism

2008 By Lewis Loflin

What is a Progressive? As I watched Hillary Clinton during a debate for the 2008 election she said she rejects the term liberal and prefers to be called a "modern Progressive." She also said she was an admirer of Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky (1909-1972), the inspiration behind ACORN. In fact she was offered a job by him. In 1969 she wrote There is Only the Fight...An analysis of the Alinsky model.

To quote Hillary on page 74 of her thesis which in many ways I believe she was speaking for herself: "The middle class is fertile ground for organizing, and Alinsky thinks, for radicalizing...(their frustration)...could be channelled into achieving radical goals. The secret...is that such goals must be perceived as paralleling self-interest."

Let's be clear that Hillary is no Marxist of the Saul Alinsky type who saw the underclass being organized from below to extract benefits from the larger society. He saw the "revolution" from the bottom up, Hillary and Progressives in general including President Obama see it from the top down.

Progressivism as Democratic Totalitarianism

The UN & governments around the world want to pack people into the cities to save the planet. The problem is companies, jobs & people are fleeing the cities because of poor & declining schools, services, streets, police, high crime & taxes. This happens due to government's short work / long retirement, defined benefit pensions & debt.

The government's will have to bankrupt all the cities to bring business, jobs & people back. If this works for Detroit, I foresee a wave of foreclosures in all the biggest cities across the country so they can compete & get the urban & rural people back to reduce carbon usage.

If Bernanke / FED ever slows bond purchases, it will cause bond rates to rise. This will trigger the wave of chapter 9's. 37% of the stimulus money went to cover pensions & bonds debt. When the Fed tap is turned causing interest rates to rise, this municipal debt becomes unsustainable real fast.

Obama signs executive order supporting Agenda 21

by Doc Vega | December 1, 2012

Among the 943 executive orders handed down by President Obama in his first term was an approval of Agenda 21. Executive orders signed by a US President grant legal and legislative measures that bypass the Congressional voting process.

Continue reading at NowPublic.com: Obama signs executive order supporting Agenda 21

...

The making of tyranny

Agenda 21 was originally conceived within the United Nations body as an environmental initiative that supposedly preserved and protected the planet in the interests of people and nations. As early as 1987 plans were being unfurled by the UN based upon a presumption by Secretary General Maurice Strong that an affluent American lifestyle could no longer be sustained. The initiative was received by President Bill Clinton early in his first term and approved by executive order in 1993. The hidden program within the Agenda 21 and the truly disturbing intentions of this scheme had not yet surfaced. In fact, the term, “Agenda 21” has even been changed to “Sustainable Development” after many had found just how draconian and shockingly inhumane this initiative turned out to be. You will find this seemingly harmless new name tag now being used for the same program.

...

Prioritizing earth over human life

Agenda 21 is synonymous with earth worship at the expense and lives of human beings. The true agenda of Sustainable Development is to use money, resources, and force to recreate a wilderness unfettered by human habitation while removing the rights and interests of American citizens under the international oversight of the United Nations in violation of the US Constitution which prohibits foreign treaties over the domestic zone interior of the United States. The plan will actually unleash a plethora of laws and regulations that will limit human movements, restrict much of what we take for granted today as freedom, and confiscate lands already owned and developed for reversion back into wilderness zones.

Confiscating American soil from the people

As much as half of the entire land mass of the continental United States would be reverted back to a wilderness status with re-introduction of wildlife into these zones where human presence will be removed and restricted from ever being there again. As large sections of US lands are divided up into these uninhabited regions green belts will also connect these reconverted lands. Humans will become the restricted entities living in densely populated areas along rail lines housed in Stack’em Pack’em structures built by UN approved contractors who do not provide structural warranties or legal remedies for building failures.

...

Obama's Czars beyond public approval

President Obama’s Czar, John Holdren, is a huge advocate of Agenda 21 and has written college papers that parallel some of the most offensive and draconian aspects of this sustainable development farce. The UN will be empowered to fund and maintain a standing army that will force worldwide compliance with the Agenda 21 regulations. Does this sound like freedom of choice or friendly foreign relations to you?

Here is a list of technology, public works, human activity, and industries that are no longer considered sustainable under the Agenda 21 protocols:

•Paved roads
•Agricultural irrigation
•Hydroelectric dams
•The cattle industry
•Independent farms
•Dairy Industry and products
•Private property ownership
•Rural land ownership
•Individual auto ownership
•Consumption of meat and dairy
•Most pet ownership
•Lawn and landscape using grass
•Air Conditioning
•Sports recreational use of land and water
•Analog electrical meters
...

Preposterous logic of submission to foreign powers

Supposed nongovernmental organizations (NGO’s) have appeared during public meetings trying to convince Americans who own their land, their automobiles, and their businesses that they should conform to UN Agenda 21 initiatives and give up their home ownership for cramped 600 square foot stacked and packed housing compartmented among other residents in the same circumstance, that is not equipped with air conditioning and walk everywhere they have to go whether in freezing winters or blazing summers in Texas that can easily cause heat stroke. All in the name of supposedly controlling “Global Warming” another grand scheme cooked up by the elites of the world government.

Federal government sanctioned foreign land grab

...

Obama unleashes world government agenda upon the US

...

This is the beginning of the end for those who know what their Constitutional rights are, and support the original tenet of limited government and free choice within the American Republic. The people had better wake up!

Oh you mean wall street? Look, the financial institutions in New York aren't engraved into the city. They can up and move their operations where ever the hell they like. If New York becomes Zoo York then businesses and corporations and wall street alike will just move on to another city to base out of. And my money is on Houston. That city is quickly catching up to New York.

what a dumb statement. No one wants a city to fail. What the Detroit situation proves is that a government run by liberals, unions, and minorities has failed once again.

Why are you unable to deal with that basic truth?

But it won't be the fault of a majority Black population. It'll be the fault of a majority HISPANIC population.

It will be the fault of the greedy public employee sector combined with the openly corrupt city government.

The Mexicans will suffer the consequences of this - while few will have reaped any reward from it.
