If capitalism is good, and communism bad, then isn't anything that makes capitalism more efficient also good? Like using slave labor? If you don't pay your workers, you make more money. That sounds good. So then why do we say slavery is bad if that's kinda communistic and antithetical to capitalism?

Why do people denounce job outsourcing to cheaper labor markets when reducing labor costs is making capitalism better? If there were a place where good workers could be had for next to nothing as with slavery, we'd outsource to that place. Higher profits is the nature of capitalism.

If you would say slavery is bad, then you're basicly a communist. If you're all for capitalism, logicly you must be ok with slavery.

actually slave labor isn't capitalism...which is the free exchange,of goods and services....slaveriy held back the south...it didn't help the south. they didn't industrialize, they didn't build a business class as the North did.....and slave labor was inferior in all ways to free labor..so no...it wasn't capitalism, and it stunted the growth of the south....

Great post! :)

I think that there are three values that together should be in some sort of balance:

Power
Responsibility
Money

So, with a slave you set power and money to zero, hence you can't demand responsibility. This means unreliable, low quality results that will reflect bad on business.

Rome and Egpyt would disagree. Not everything's about the south.

Rome and Egypt were not capitalist societies........so what bearing do they have on your point? And slavery brought down the Roman Empire....read their history....when the citizens didn't have to work because all the manual labor and other labor was done buy slaves it made the Roman Citizens lazy, and unwilling to contribute to the society...

Slavery is not a free exchange of services and is therefore the antithesis of Capitalism........

At the OP...It appears you are terribly mixed up.

Communism is slavery. Capitalism is the opposite of slavery.

Christianity brought down Rome. Had been a polytheist culture embracing many faiths, then Christianity came along, the others got banned, and it imploded.

Slaves only work hard enough not to be beaten. A free person will work hard enough to earn more. You have to provide a slave with food and shelter (however poor) and have enough supervison to prevent runaways and enough security to prevent an uprising and catch runaways. A free person you just have to pay wages.

Taking everything into account, slaves are not as productive and cost more. Which is why they were only used for labor intensive, high profit, crops such as cotton and tobacco.

You haven't read you Roman history........it imploded because it became a welfare state based on slave labor. And political corruption......you know the phrase "Bread and Circuses," right?
