The U.S. needs to get a handle on Military spending. Building toys for big boys to use in a gigantic ocean war that will never happen is a dead end. When the greatest fighting force is led by fools all the spending in the world won't compensate. "Intelligence" networks are so closely tied to the military that it's almost impossible to separate the two. The CIA has been used illegally by at least one administration and probably more and it hasn't been on top of any important event since WW2. Now we have a virtual alphabet of intelligence networks led by political hacks and thanks to a series of traitors there are no secrets left. We need to streamline the intelligence networks and get rid of the fat assed admirals and generals ensconced in the Pentagon and redirect the budget.

Actually, as far as quality, quantity and cutting edge equipment goes the US is light years ahead of any other country. We have better everything and more of it.

In a ground war against Russia we would defeat them is a matter of weeks and the same goes for China.

I remember hearing stories from soldiers and family members about the lack of equipment and equipment breaking down constantly in Iraq/Afghanistan? Mothers and fathers sending flak jackets to their kids.

That is because most of what we spend on the military is waste and fraud. The other thing is if these soldiers make it to 20 years and retire the receive life long pensions and other benefits. The military had the money for body armor and armored Humvees. Dead soldiers are not a financial liability but wounded ones are.

The chicken hawk war mongers don't give a crap about our wounded warriors.

I got no problem with benefits and pension anyone that works at one company usually gets that after retirement. I agree on the fraud and abuse its the military industrial complex politicians getting their friends contracts etc.

American military power comes from air superiority. We have the strongest navy because we have the most carriers. We have the best Army because we have the best Air Force. This approach is unquestionably superior, but is inherently more expensive.

The key opportunities for reducing defense without compromising our ability to remain a dominant military force is not through reducing the quality of equipment. It's in withdrawing our military from international theaters while playing world police. We need to bring our people and our equipment home and use the military for what it's meant to be: a defense.

There is probably less fraud in the military than there was 30 years ago but there is probably still a lot.

What will save the US a lot of money is to stay out of foreign entanglements. Staying out of the Middle East is a no brainer.

Maybe the thing to do about is to root out all the waste and fraud and march the criminals to a firing squad and execute them for treason.

I think stories like the one you posted are planted by hawks. 47% of the world's military spending is the US and if you factor in the NSA and the CIA whose budgets are secret US military spending could be 80% of the world's military spending.
