It's The Federal Gov't's Responsibility To Get The Supplies!

Just watching President Trump's news conference and I am not sure the President gets what most of America thinks that Congress and the President should get which is that it is the Federal government solely not the state governments responsibility to provide the extraordinary levels of personal protection equipment, testing supplies and medical equipment, etc. the entirety of America will need during an epidemic or pandemic. It is one thing to expect the states to try to get these things as best they can because the nation was caught unprepared to handle a pandemic and so the Federal government cannot come through states have to be creative to find a way to help meet their citizens needs; and saying the Country was caught unprepared that isn't any individual's fault America for decades should have required "domestic" industries for these items with the manufacturers having back-up equipment and supplies so it could ramp up production to handle a pandemic hitting America. It is important that the President understand that it is the Federal government and alone the Federal government's duty to get these medical supplies the American people need.

Some of the numbers of the medical items that individual states claim they need are probably inflated and it is understandable any administrator of a health care facility is not going to only want an inventory of these things that will last a week they are going to want to have several weeks or more of inventory and unfortunately FEMA only has the inventory to meet hot spots immediate needs. Plus, the American public hears states saying they need ten thousand ventilators and then the public learns there is only five thousand patients in that state's ICUs on ventilators so the criticism of the Federal government on some issues may be overdone. It is important that the President of the United States understand that it is the Federal government's duty not the states duty to get these medical supplies that the American people across America need because if he doesn't understand this duty upon him he will not use the full force of his power given to him by the Defense Production Act. There is one needed item I think he could be taking off the table within three weeks by using the Act; this being the N95 masks the days where nurses and doctors are given one mask at the beginning of their shift and are told that will have to carry you through the entirety of your shift should be ending very soon. The President should use the Defense Production Act to go into the company 3M and copy all their blue prints for the molds, presses and materials and manufacturing procedures they use to manufacture the N95 masks and commandeer a handful of other American businesses manufacturing facilities that have the wherewithal to utilize these blue prints and procedures to produce these masks and order these other businesses to produce these masks, telling them the Federal Government will pay their costs; I am confident that in three to four weeks America would be seeing Niagara Falls production levels of these N95 masks!

Are you off your meds?

Why would it be the fed-gov's responsibility to buy ventilators or masks for Minnesota or Texas?

The fed-gov DID have a zillion N95 masks but obama used them all up and didn't replace them...every hospital, county, city, and state should have their own emergency supplies...Just like I do for my own personal use!

To put the responsibility for YOUR protection onto somebody else will get you killed. No matter if it's a ventilator or a gun!

It's a NATIONAL pandemic. So are you also saying that if a hurricane hits Florida they shouldn't get a dime of government money or supplies?

The healthcare industry isn't owned and operated by the U.S. government. The U.S. government provides insurance coverage and moderates the policies of hospitals and pharma, but ultimately it isn't the U.S. governments responsibility to supply these industries. Since this coronavirus pandemic is declared a national emergency, they took it upon themselves to scramble the needed supplies together and provide help to the medical sector. When this has ended the usual supply method will return.

By definition, a pandemic is world wide.
Does that mean the UN should then be in charge and do the financing?

The only reason your view has any validity is that the federal government also illegally has control over so much of the public revenue that should be controlled by the states and not the federal government.
Of course not.
The Constitution simply does not give the federal government any jurisdiction at all except for things like the Coast Guard, ambassadors, and the military.

This is a false premise.. Fed govt does stockpile disaster items. But it's not NEARLY enough to even consider MOVING anywhere during a national crisis.. Just the LOGISTICS of storing all that in ONE PLACE is the ANTITHESIS of "national preparedness".. Would be stupid to stockpile at just a few locations..

The states RIGHT NOW even REQUIRE "certificates of need" from hospitals for new treatment equipment.. Applies to clinics and walk in private Urgent care also.. They RESTRICT the number of MRI, CT, respirators, etc in a misguided attempt to "lower medical costs"... Will not ALLOW "excess capacity"... And THAT is problem that needs to be fixed here.. It's EXCESS CAPACITY that would bring DOWN marketplace prices for healthcare..

This pandemic is nationwide, as we have shut our borders. It is ridiculous to place all of the responsibility on the states to take care of these situations. Why has no one answered my question then? When a state gets destroyed by a hurricane or several tornadoes does that mean the federal government should not give them any money or help???

Great.. I'm aware of all this.. If we got hit by a couple nukes from L'il Kim Chee that might work if the National stockpile WAS NOT HIT... But the Fed govt is NOT a warehouse for the WORSE CASE NATIONAL crisis...

A stock pile OBAMA WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR RESTOCKING after using it..>>>> way to go retard...

So your blob has no responsibility for a federal Stockpile?
Your piece of shit told our blob that the stockpile was fine.. HE LIED... But you and your piece of shit will take no responsibility for it.. I can guarantee that when trump leaves office it will be fully stocked...

You have this unrealistic ideal of view of what the Feds are capable of.. They are NOT that fast, that smart or that efficient..

They have no concept of strategic distancing (multiple stockpiles in many locations). Each state is supposed to be stockpiling for its residents from their own funding. The US stockpile is for extreme emergencies that no one can prepare for fully. States Like NY have reports showing what they needed and they chose to pay for pet lib projects instead of preparing for the worst..

It's not a matter of STOCKPILING.. It's a matter of getting installed, calibrated and WORKING also for the bigger pieces.. If you're trying to install more ventilators RIGHT NOW -- you're wasting valuable human resources...

Lol.

NIMS and the NRP is an “all hazards” framework. The SNS is part of the plan.

You don’t seem to know much about this stuff.

SO -- you're saying Trump is right about relying on CHINA for everything.. You realize that 85% of ALL our meds come from there. Prescription or OTC... And that GE moved it's entire Med division to CHina over 15 years ago...

Wouldn't matter about STOCKPILING at the Federal level if the BIG freighters from China stop DOCKING next week.. Aint no "stockpile" big that's gonna exist anywhere to get us through the month as a WHOLE nation...
