Looking around the world their former colonies have fared well in the modern age better than any other Euro colonies have and better than those never colonized. Most of them retain a lot of British culture, govt., legal systems, etc. Spain's and French colonies are mostly shitholes, but still better than those left to themselves.

The British left a legacy of death, destruction, and oppression everywhere they have ever gone. Even the British today will admit that.
