J.D. Vance’s lame and disgusting attempt to smear the military record of Gov. Tim Walz is not the first time that he’s played this pathetic and unpatriotic game. It turns out that two years ago he tried to smear the reputation of retired Army General Barry McCaffrey.

After McCaffrey criticized Vance’s position to not support Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression, Vance tried to attack McCaffrey’s stellar military record.

Vance shot back at McCaffrey, saying: "Your entire time in military leadership we won zero wars. You drank fine wine at bulls—t security conferences while thousands of working class kids died on the battlefield. Oh, by the way, how much do you stand to gain financially from a war with Russia, Barry?"
What a twit.

New York Times columnist David French slammed Vance, writing: "He’s talking about a guy with three Purple Hearts, two silver stars, and who commanded 24th ID in Desert Storm, leading the attack that led to one of the most decisive military victories in American history. This is such a sad and shameful attack on an honorable man."

Former Department of Defense official Mike Walker added that “Little JD must offer a public apology and stop talking about things he knows nothing about."

All this from a little, little man who is a VP candidate with someone who escaped military service by claiming he had bone spurs, and who served in Iraq for six months, in the public affairs unit, and wrote in his memoir that he was "lucky to escape any real fighting.”

J.D. Vance needs to stop trying to smear the honorable military records of honorable people and, in the words of our next VP Tim Walz, mind his own damn business. And a reminder:

HT to Canid Micturate for pointing out that Vance’s attempted smears of Walz’s military record are

similar to ones that were attempted by Walz’s opponent for the 2022 Minnesota Governor’s race, and the attacks were completely debunked by the Star Tribune newspaper at the time.

Joseph Eustice, a 32-year veteran of the guard who led the same battalion as Walz, said the governor fulfilled his duty.
"He was a great soldier," Eustice said. "When he chose to leave, he had every right to leave."
Eustice said claims to the contrary are ill-informed and possibly

sour grapes by a soldier who was passed over for the promotion to command sergeant major that went to Walz.
The person Eustice is referring to is Thomas Behrends, who the Star Tribune notes has been a longtime critic of Walz,

and he is quoted in this week’s Washington Post story about Vance’s smear.
