In fact, state seizure of property is a practice more at home in the former Soviet Union than the United States.

I'm not really concerned. The incidence of people committing multiple crimes and never getting caught, is infinitely higher than the people being arrested for crimes they didn't commit. So everyone needs to share the guilt equally. "From those according to their abilities, to those according to their needs." Isn't that how it's all supposed to work, from the left's point of view? If you're gonna share the wealth, you might as well to share the guilt too.

The government should only be able to keep evidence until the case is resolved if it's your property. They should not be able to confiscate cash unless it's over $100,000 and you have no receipt. I've heard too many stories of people getting $2500 taken even though they had pay stubs to prove it. The cops were just being scumbags. If you've got paperwork to prove you received the cash from a bank, then you should be free and clear. You're not laundering that small amount of cash. After an insurance settlement I carried $45K in cash out of the WF bank because I did not want to set up a checking account with them. I kept it in my gun safe while construction went and paid in cash.

Saved a lot of money.

I'm a police officer and I'll state without reserve that the crime doesn't matter. Due process is sacrosanct. The application of the law has to occur without prejudice in order to maintain the moral justification for force.

Remember, these seizures are not police policy and police don't benefit from them. The recipients of these monies are state bureaucrats.

The benefit of seizures should ultimately end up helping peaceful law abiding citizens.
Meaning better more efficient and safer policing and a more equal efficient justice system.
I've never agreed the monies from seizures go to 'general revenue'.

13 states have changed their procedures to allow only for adoptive forfeiture. This means there must be a conviction first. Sessions is proposing an overhaul of the entire system to require a conviction before any forfeiture can take place.

Now, how to get states to adopt the same laws.

You are a liar. The article states that adoptive forfeiture allows the federal government to share the proceeds with local officials. It also states this is a way around more restrictive state laws.. The article does not mention any reforms.
