Jill Stein Fundraising Skyrockets 999% After Bernie Endorsed Hillary

Stein makes a lot of sense to a lot of people, people who never thought Bernie would give up. According to US Uncut, “Since Tuesday morning, the Green Party has received over $80,000 in contributions, over half of which comes from first-time donors, and half of which comes in the form of contributions under $50. Tellingly, about 615 of those contributions totalled $27, the exact number commonly trumpeted and solicited by the Sanders campaign during his revolutionary grassroots funding movement.”
One of the most common arguments for voting for Stein is that "...there is no real difference between Hillary, and Trump," Does anyone remember the last time this argument was made? I do. It was Ralph Nader in 2000. Now, Nader won 2,882,995 votes, which sounds impressive, until you realize that that only amounts to about 2% of the vote. It was nowhere near enough to come even close to winning. But, do you know what it was enough to do? it was enough to allow George W. Bush to squeak by Al Gore.

Now, I'm well aware that Republicans/Conservatives think the Bush administration was glorious. However, they aren't the ones that are going to be voting for either Clinton, or Stein, anyway. Those of you who are progressives, can you imagine how different things would have been, had Gore won? Maybe no 9/11. Certainly no Iraq war. No Bush tax cuts. Most likely no Patriot Act. There is a metric fuckton of bullshit we could have avoided had we not been subjected to Bush/Cheney.

And now progressives are doing it again. If there is actually anyone who thinks that Stein has any chance of actually winning, they haven't paid any attention to political history. There is no doubt - to anyone - that idea of voting for Stein will be a "protest vote".

Well, as you cast your protest vote, just remember who that gave us last time, and then decide if you are okay with that outcome with Trump.

Well, this probably will mean a president trump. Shame that the greens couldn't do well down ticket and Stein could just endorse HIllary. Would be nice to have a far left party in congress.

I hope the Greenies raise a ton of money to fight off the Socialists but you almost gotta laugh when a 999% increase in donations only equals $80,000

The Democrats don't need any more help in trashing America.

Clinton has Stein and Clinton and Trump have Johnson to worry about.

The third party candidate will be the one that will hurt one side or the other this election cycle and not just Clinton...

Another way of stating your argument is to point out "choosing" between the lesser of two evils is exactly what's led to Trump v Clinton. There have never been two major candidates as hated as Hillary and Donald. Dr. Jill and Gary Johnson could convince tens of millions of voters who normally choose either Republican or Democrat candidates to vote Green or Libertarian. If the Greens and Libertarians combine to win the popular vote for president, Hillary or Trump will face opposition that no POTUS has seen in over a hundred years.

Fuck Jill Stein and FUCK the Green party. They are responsible for the Dubya disaster. And they tried AGAIN in 2004 to help him out.

Any of you thinking of voting Green party? You can go fuck yourself.

The thing is, historically the only thing "protest votes" have done is help whoever the opposition of the protest vote was:
  • In 1968, a third party candidate, Alabama Gov. George Wallace, won 9,900,000 votes and 13.5% of the overall vote. Hubert Humphrey lost that election to Richard Nixon by only half a million votes, ushering in 2 Nixon administrations and the worst years of the Vietnam War, as it escalated into Cambodia and Laos, and saw some 30,000+ US soldiers die in the jungles of Southeast Asia.
  • In 1980, a third party candidate, Rep. John Anderson, got 5,700,000 votes and 6.6% of the overall vote. While his votes alone would not have put Jimmy Carter over the top, the presence of Anderson in the election and the debate controversy he created added to the anti-incumbent mood that helped usher in the Reagan years.
  • In 1992, a third party candidate, Ross Perot, won 19,700,000 votes and 18.9% of the overall vote. It is widely agreed that his presence ate into the traditional GOP vote and cost George H.W. Bush a second term.
  • In 2000, a third party candidate, Ralph Nader, won 2,880,000 votes and 2.7% of the overall vote, including 97,000 votes in Florida and 22,000 votes in New Hampshire, both states that George W. Bush won by much smaller margins. Had Nader not been on the ballot in either of those states, George Bush would not have been elected, there would've been no Bush tax cuts to push us from surplus to deficits, and we probably would not have had the Iraq War or the rise of ISIS.
What your suggesting is that, at worst, the Presidency will be determined by which candidate gets the least draw form a third party protest vote. Still seems to be an incentive for Progressives to choose the only candidate who has an actual chance of winning, and supports, at least, some of their positions, to prevent the guy who clearly supports none of them, and will actively work to undo any thing that has been accomplish, and will seat a Supreme Court Justice who will tip the court for the conservative agenda for the next generation from winning the election.

Fuck Jill Stein and FUCK the Green party. They are responsible for the Dubya disaster. And they tried AGAIN in 2004 to help him out.

Any of you thinking of voting Green party? You can go fuck yourself.

I wasn't going to put it quite so aggressively, but that's kinda what I was saying...

It SHOULD be said so aggressively. If they'd shown remorse, and not run that asshole Nader again in 2004 I'd be fine with them. But they went ahead and did it anyways. The green party has done unspeakable damage to this country.

The bottom line is voters should vote however their conscience dictates. But don't pretend that you aren't casting a vote for Donald Trump by withholding one from Hillary Clinton. You may not like that sentence, and you may yell and scream that a vote for a third party candidate is not a vote for Trump, but the reality is the reality. Only two people on earth have a realistic chance to be the next president of the United States. And they aren't named Gary Johnson or Jill Stein.

Your vote, whatever you do with it, is either going to help the Democratic candidate or the Republican. The end result will live with you and the nation forever.

True. However, if you truly have no preference over whether Trump or Hillary wins... then you should go ahead and vote 3rd party.

That's voting out of fear. Fear is not what your vote is about. You are rewarding arrogance and the 2 corporations that call themselves parties.

But MOSTLY I'm amazed that this thread becomes all about "strategery" as GWB put it.. And NOT about what the Green Party is OFFERING voters as an alternative. OF COURSE they are gonna lose if they are only known as political monkey wrenchers. You could save the $80,000 and just write in "NOA" (none of the above) on your ballot.

At LEAST recognize that this party has a platform and some principles. And IS the preferred solution for a couple Million voters.

Because they don't. Not a realistic one, anyway. Let's assume that every single Sander supporter threw all of their votes to Stein. Would that give Stein enough votes to win the election? (Here's a hint: It didn't even give Sanders enough votes to win the Primary.) Let's even be generous, and say, a quarter of the Clinton supporters switched to Stein. Would she, then, have enough votes to win? No. So, it is a foregone conclusion that Stein will not win. As such, what does the Green Party have to "offer" voters? After all, to offer anything doesn't a candidate first have to convince voters that they have a real chance of winning the presidency, and, thereby, be able to put their ideas into practice?

So, since we have already established that Stein cannot win, and, therefore, has nothing realistic to "offer" to voters, the only thing that voting for Stein does is draw votes away from Clinton, and ensure that Trump wins. Now, if you're okay with that outcome, that's fine. But, once the election is over, and Trump is President, don't pretend that you didn't help make that happen.

I would vote Green before voting for Hillary Clinton or her buddy Donald John Trump... The people that should go fuck themselves are the ones that keep on voting for the pathetic candidates that the Republican and Democratic party offers up...

It is amazing that you blame the Green Party for Gore losing the 2000 election while you and Old School forget Gore lost his own home state in that election. Had Gore won his home state there would have been no George W. Bush as President and the Green Party voter would not have been on your mind.

So let cut the bullshit and let be really honest and that is Clinton voters hate the idea that someone does not vote Democratic Party, and would prefer a one political party system and not freedom of choice.

The reason why the third party candidate is never consider is because those like you are programmed by MSM to believe your only two choices are either the Republican Party of the Democratic Party and that is truly sad and pathetic for you and those like you!

I will vote Libertarian not just because I am protesting the two party system but the reality is neither candidate on the two major political parties should ever be allow to be President.

Now stop passing the buck on Gore failure to win the 2000 election because if you can not win your home state you should never be allow to become President!

You're right. he lost Tennessee; because of two factors. First, since 1952 Tennessee has been reliably Republican, so a Democrat was already fighting an uphill battle. Then, add to that the votes lost in Tennessee to Nader, and just how likely do you think it was going to be that Gore won Tennessee?

Nader was not the issue and the fact is Gore was a weak candidate because he attempted to distance himself from Bill Clinton. You worry about Jill Stein but the candidate that is the true threat is Gary Johnson. Gary Johnson will draw looks from Sanders voters because of his Libertarian views on topics like Pot.

You can not deny the American Public are tiring of the same sales pitch and empty promises from the bigger two political parties and that is why some are looking and planning to vote Libertarian and Green this November.

Instead of attacking those voters maybe the Democratic Party and the Republican Party should reflect and look inward and discover why they are driving away and into the arms of third party candidates, but alas those like you will not do this and just blame the third party voter for not buying the flaw product you are selling.

This election will not be like 2000 but more like 1992 and will give Clinton the White House but by a narrow general vote but a wide electoral college vote.

Johnson will cause the Ross Perot effect...

I can deny that, because I see no such thing. Hell, neither Stein, nor Johnson have even been able to gin up enough support to get them on the debate stages. In other words, the same amount of people are "tiring of the same sales pitch" as has happened every time a third party candidate has gotten a little traction - not nearly enough to get elected, but just enough to fuck the candidate that should have been elected. Now, under normal circumstances, I really wouldn't give a shit. But, during this particular election, the next President gets to decide the make-up of the Supreme Court for the next fuckiong generation! You'll forgive me if Trump being that someone scares the piss out of me.
