On one side of the Oval Office sat Barack Obama making nice with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On the other side stood Press Secretary Jay Carney checking the Vegas line on this week's NFL games. Next to him stood Joe Biden, who is still vice president. He appeared to be in another trance.
In between Biden and Carney and Obama and Netanyahu Monday was a jostling pack of reporters and photographers recording the leaders' warm words and chilly body language.
Obama was stressing the naïve need to test Iran's sudden friendliness and professed disinterest in nuclear weapons.
