So a Democrat who pushed Obamacare and campaigned on keeping it, goes down in flames.

A good start.

CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Republican David Jolly is the winner of a hard-fought congressional election in Florida to replace the late Rep. Bill Young.

With nearly 100 percent of the vote counted, the Associated Press says Jolly bested democrat Alex Sink in a contest that attracted national attention and millions of dollars.

The special election served as the first test of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul ahead of November's midterm elections. Local issues took a backseat to the health care law as both national parties and outside groups flooded the swing-voting district with ads, phone calls and mailings about “Obamacare.” Democrats and republicans used the race to audition national strategies.

While republicans held the congressional seat for more than four decades until Young's death last year, district's voters favored Obama in the 2008 and 2012.

With polls closed and 225 out of 225 percent reporting Tuesday evening, unofficial results show Jolly had 48.43 percent of the vote to democrat Alex Sink's 46.56 percent. Libertarian Lucas Overby had 4.83 percent.

Jolly is a former aide for young and a lobbyist. Sink is a former state chief financial officer and was the democratic nominee for governor in 2010, narrowly losing to republican Rick Scott.

The toss-up race is seen as an early test of how president Barack Obama's health care overhaul will play in November's midterm elections.

One win does not a sea change make.

This may indeed be a harbinger of things to come, but...

Might I suggest you wait before giving the whole of The Hill to Republicans?

The turnout wasn't that great either. How long before the democrats say the election was illegal?

Very true but the fact this seat was in a district that from what I hear is pretty much split down the middle between Democrats and Republicans is telling. A lot of stuff can happen between now and November but Republicans should see this a cautious positive and Democrats as a warning sign.

If the Democrat had won by the same margin, what are the chances the usual leftist fanatics would be in here telling everyone "Hey, mellow out, one election doesn't necessarily forecast what will happen in November", etc. etc.?

Somewhere between "slim" and "Are you kidding???"

For what it's worth, I would have posted the same message in that thread.

But then again, I'm no fanatic, left or right...
