This seems to confirm that the hotel complex and its restaurant were not exclusively used for civilian purposes but housed and catered to foreign soldiers.

It's understood that NATO special forces are not just training but also overseeing and actively engaging in combat situations. Such teams had also been operating in Afghanistan before Bush started his attack, and are constantly operating worldwide.

Yes, but if we were not throwing money in there and supporting Ukraine, it would be over. Ukrainians would just be conducting guerilla warfare against russian occupiers and that's that. We have no military or strategic interests in the eastern hemisphere. We keep involving ourselves in their politics and conflicts when all we should be doing is selling ammo for gold.

Well, I am not with you on this regard. I think that in our era the policy of isolationism isn't achievable on practice. I support strong ties with the US and Europe, especially NATO, as a form of confronting possible China-led alliance of autocracies. Yes, the Cold War 2.0 era is coming.

I will concede it's in our interests to keep our carrier fleets and maintain a capacity to literally destroy anyplace on earth as quickly as possible. That said, we're too damned spread out and we have enough of our own problems. I'm of the thinking that if we stood NATO down after the Warsaw Pact collapsed it would have greatly improved the future and possibly led to better governance in russia than the mafia boss with nuclear codes.
