James Sumner of Leyland, Lancashire, designs the world’s first steam-powered lawn mower. He later produces a modified version of his design through his newly founded Lancashire Steam Motor Company, which eventually morphs into British Leyland.

Okay. For some reason this thread reminded me of the special where the great Monty Don toured American gardens. In one of those episodes, he was completely flabergasted that Americans had lawns but NO hedges. He couldn't believe the audacity. It was like we are violating God's commandment having manicured lawns and not hedgerows and cottage gardens at our homes.
