Lebron James is the greatest to ever play the game

when i was a kid i was on an elevator in Cleveland with Micky Mantle,Whitey Ford,Bobby Richardson and Moose Skowron.....
Did you get a contact high from all the booze in the elevator?
they gave me a swig from the bottle they had.....then Mantle went and hit 2 homers in each game of the Double header while Whitey shut out the Indians in game one....

Baseball is weird to me. The best guys batting only get a hit 30-35% of the time. The best guys.

The odds are over 50% that they wont even get a hit.

That means a couple of things.

My dad used to tell me they wouldn't be talking about Willie Mays like they do, if Mantle hadn't of gotten hurt.

Wilt holds more scoring records than anyone. He also scored 100 points in one game.

The guy was seven feet. Most centers in the league were 6"5 6"6 when Wilt was dominating. Stack Wilt up against guys in the modern era and he's not half as dominant.

He was a 440 man in HS and college, and very agile and flexible for a man his size.

Mantle was faster, Mays the better fielder and hit just a bit better for power.

Mantle, Mays, Snider: all in NYC for several years.

How would Ruth do against Bob Gibson or Sandy Koufax?

Hmm... maybe ushered in a new era of baseball again?

i bet with the pitchers who came in from the 60's on he would not be as great as he was.....might still be good but not that good....

Fun article from Bob Klapisch talking about what it might be like for Babe Ruth to adjust to the modern game. Clearly there were huge differences: Ruth played only against white players, only played day games and didn’t have to deal with bullpen specialists. By the same token, what would he have been able to do if he had video and better advance scouting and modern training techniques? Throw into the mix a neat factoid Klapisch passes along about how Ruth was found to have had substantially above-average hand-eye coordination, intelligence and steadier nerves.

But Wilt was built. I think he could have muscled just about every other center, except Shaq, Ewing, and Olajuwon.

it means that hitting a baseball is one of the toughest things to do in sports....

if the mick would have had good knees he would have played more and stats would have been better....the DH rule would have been great for him........but Willie was a dam good player....to hit 50 homers in those days without Steroids and a juiced up ball was pretty dam good...

does not take away from what Rocko said Jake.....when you are the tallest guy by a foot in the league you should be pretty dominate....now the avg height is 6'5 for the players and look how many 7 footers there are... Wilt would have been good....but not as dominate as he was...

Ruth would have been good....but not as dominating as he was in the 20's and early 30's....players get better over time....money made it pretty competitive....

MICHAEL JORDAN is the best player in NBA history. Case closed.

LeBron James is arguably in the top ten, but he is in no way Number One. Not even close.

LeBron James and his "cruise control" moments prevent him from being number one.

Modern NBA players are not in the same "league" as the NBA players from the past.

Wilt Chamberlain

Bill Russell

Jerry West

Elgin Baylor

Larry Bird

Oscar Robertson

Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Magic Johnson

Walt Frazier

Karl Malone

These are just a few of the players who played BOTH ends of the floor, NEVER took time off during a game, and NEVER disappeared at crunch time.

At least you got that right. Modern NBA players would make players in the past look like high schoolers. The athleticism, strength, and speed of today's players would be unmatched. Only the very best of the best from past years would be average to star players now.

Lebron is an anomaly like Magic and Jordan before him. He may not catch Jordan but he is number#2.
