Legislation would create panel to study sex crimes on college campuses wpri.com

"PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A local lawmaker is working to address the issue of sexual assaults on college campuses.

Representative Mia Ackerman introduced legislation that would create a commission dedicated to studying the growing problem.

The bill calls for an 11-member panel that would look at ways to eliminate sexual assaults on Rhode Island college campuses."

My idea: start punishing rapists. Try that for a while and see if it helps.

If girls could just understand that this isn't really rape, it's sex ed homework. Why are these girls saying no anyway? Are they racist? Are they discriminating?

No. None of those. Most allegations of campus rapes are false. Of those that aren't false, the rapist isn't a student. So there's really nothing to address.

While I get the sarcasm, wouldn't count on everyone getting it. :)

Like many college campuses, UCLA has been plagued with campus rapes. The composite sketches are of men between 30 and 40, hispanic, wearing work clothes of some kind. Looking among the students and having anti rape programs for the students isn't helping.

So more bureaucracy over a problem based on an erroneous stat, that will recommend more impossible to implement "solutions" that basically destroy any right to due process that is usually afforded to someone accused.

California passed the yes means yes law. It didn't help but it felt good. Maybe Rhode Island should pass the same kind of nonsense.

MOST "rapes" on college campuses are he was drunk, she was drunk, she regretted it the next morning.

You want to cut down on college "rapes"
A) Tell women that if she's drunk and can't legally consent then the same applies to the male and he can't be held responsible for his actions.

B) Start prosecuting women who knowingly make false claims of rape. The potential sentence should be the same as a rapist would face.

The yes means yes law only applies to couples that have a social connection. They are dating, they belong to the same study group. It doesn't apply to the guy stalking victims in the parking lot.

Equally stupid are safe zones. Street corners with a sign designating it as a safe zone. Just a sign. An imaginary perimeter.

You mean rapists don't say "oh oh oh you made it the safe zone" and walk away from a victim?

LOL "Can't touch me now!! I'm next to the sign"

That's the way it works. Not just rapists though. Robbers are equally undeterred.

If the authorities really wanted to deter campus violence, they would wall off universities and have armed guarded gates.

Lol conservatives in this thread are against rape victims and studies that may prevent rapes and wrongful accusations in the future? No surprise here.
Against the nonsense liberals come up with to solve the problem. Written yes means yes contracts will not stop rapes. Safe zones with imaginary perimeters won't stop rapes. Ignoring a wrongful accuser won't stop fake rape claims.

The studies are academic. They come up with academic solutions. The whole thing is laughable.

Now, now they feel like they are making a difference and progress. LOL

Republican solution: "Fuck you potential rape victim. You deserved it."

No, we are against poor choices and drunken hookups being called rape. Regretting you got hammered and slept with a guy who then blew you off is not rape. Awkward mutual hookups that end in one party getting emotionally hurt is not rape.

Great! Liberals are all for that too! We just don't approve of conservatives assuming every girl who cries rape is a whore who probably deserved it anyways.

Republican solution: "Fuck you potential rape victim. You deserved it."

The progressive solution: Deny the accused any rights to due process, hell, they are usually white privileged males anyway. "
