Let Me Get This Straight About Impeachment Over Trump's Ukraine Phone Call

Attorney General Bill Barr was "surprised and angry" to find that President Trump had grouped him together with his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani during a controversial July 25 phone call with the president of Ukraine, a source "familiar with Barr's thinking" tells the AP.

Between the lines: The anonymous leak to the AP suggests a possible effort by Barr to distance himself from the Ukraine scandal that ignited a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump last week. The whistleblower complaint at the heart of the scandal alleges that Trump solicited foreign interference in the 2020 election by asking Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden, and that both Giuliani and Barr appeared to be involved.

  • "I will have Mr. Giuliani give you a call and I am also going to have Attorney General Barr call and we will get to the bottom of it," Trump told Zelensky, according to a summary of the call released by the White House.
  • Justice Department officials say Barr was not aware of the phone call until mid-August.

Bear in mind, 'a source "familiar with Barr's thinking" tells AP' most likely means that Barr ordered an underling to "leak" whatever Barr told him to leak in order to put as much distance as possible between himself (Barr) and whatever criminality Trump has committed or was planning to commit. The man may be entirely bereft of principles, but he sure knows not to be anywhere near Trump when the jaws of the justice system narrow around Trump's ample waist.

and he is using the DOJ thats why he told Ukrain to contact them

no dbl standards
And Bill Barr stated that is simply not true,

said he was not involved in the Ukraine.

got a link??

your link doesnt back up your claim,,,
Justice Department officials say Barr was not aware of the phone call until mid-August.

Sure seems like it does, since Barr was never made aware of the call and demand to meet with Barr, when Barr knew nothing about it....

Also, July 25 was not the first mention of needing dirt on Biden and Crowdstrike, it had been going on for months with our Diplomats, and Ambassadors and Giuliani with the Ukraine gvt... of which we have the text messages to prove it....

Yet Barr claims he knew nothing until 3 weeks after the phone call....?

do you always know what you boss is doing???
I doubt it,,

So let me see if I understand the Democrats' position on this: Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid from Ukraine if Ukraine did not fire the prosecutor who was investigating the Ukrainian company that was paying Biden's drug-using, Navy-discharged-for-drug-use son Hunter $50K per month--and that's no big deal, nothing to see here. But, Donald Trump's request to Ukraine that Ukraine investigate the suspicious, apparently corrupt firing of that prosecutor is an impeachable offense!

Can you imagine what Democrats would be saying if Trump had a troubled son, if that troubled son were hired by a Ukrainian company for the amazing salary of $50K per month (even though the son possessed no job skills that would justify such a salary), if a Ukrainian prosecutor began to investigate the company that was paying Trump's troubled son such an exorbitant salary, if Trump then threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid to Ukraine if the prosecutor weren't fired, and if Ukraine then fired the prosecutor? They would justifiably argue that this smelled to high heaven of corruption.

So the Democrats want to impeach Trump because he wanted Ukraine to investigate what clearly appears to have been a case of corruption involving Joe Biden, his son, and the Ukrainian company, and the previous Ukrainian government that fired the prosecutor.

It is clear that there is no corruption. Getting a $50,000 a month retainer to sit on the board of directors is not illegal. There is no evidence that Hunter Biden committed any crimes. Hunter Biden is not related to Barack Obama. Biden represented the views of Obama, many in the federal government, the world community and Ukrainian reformers. The prosecutor was corrupt and it was the right thing to do.

Thank you @OliverBullough - indeed it’s insane to use UKRAINE as a ball at the AMERICAN national political field. Prosecutor Shokin did not open the case on Zlochevskyi & Burisma. He dumped it. And he was fired for being corrupt and failing prosecution reform @kenvogel

She is a Ukrainian who has fought corruption in Ukraine longer than Trump has been President.

Trump cut military aide to Ukraine which was totally unexpected and before he spoke to Zelensky. Then he says we give you a lot of money and we would like you to investigate the Bidens. That clearly is a quid pro quo. Since the prosecutor in question was not investigating Burisma, Biden had no vested interest in kicking Shokin out.

no one said he committed a crime,,, it about joe Bidens ethics and pay to play,,,

and trump didnt withhold money for them to investigate,,,
its time to get your facts straight or shut up...
Then why did trump hold up the money?

That has been readily documented in several cases, not just one. The ambassadors to Ukraine and the EU sent each other texts saying the aid was being withheld to see if the new administration in Ukraine was serious about corruption. They were, and the aid was restored. Fact. EOS.
Great, so what corruption did Trump discuss with Zelensky?

if you dont already know that you should shut up until you do,,,

I think even most Republicans would admit that Trump is just plain stupid

His diplomatic skills are almost child like and left him open to impeachment charges. I can’t think of any other president from either party who would be so naive

1. Opens up with a reminder that the US is the only one in Ukraine’s corner and that Europe can’t be counted on
2. Enters a discussion on military aid (which he had frozen just a week before) and when the subject of Javelin missile sales comes up...
3. Trump immediately pounces with........I need a favor “though”
4. Rather than hide his personal favors in with some generic US policy favors, he lists two favors that only pertain to him and the coming election
5. Has his aides tie a personal visit to the President with progress on his “favors”

Any other President or Mafia Don would be more subtle in their requests and have the actual details handled by underlings

Trump deserves impeachment for shear stupidity
if we were to punish people for being stupid, pretty sure you'd only be allowed to post during your 5 minutes of exercise time from prison.

Do you honestly think Trump handled the conversation well?

Since you don't want to answer, I'll answer for you.

He's pissed because now he is pulled in to it, and won't be able to cover Trump's corruption, if they make him recuse himself from this mess.

Let's try that with credible sources...
Snowflakes always try to discredit the source when they can't debunk what is being reported.

Anyone can make unfounded accusations...
The Democrats have proven that the last 3+ years...

Bwuhahahahaha

You have no sources to discredit... When you do produce them they are Infowars level of information...

Has someone not brought you aside and told you that those websites rot your mind... You come on here everyday and you are getting worse.. You can't see facts anymore...

You have lost any objectivity, that is why you base your arguments in facts, you can't...

Get some fucking help..
This from a guy who STILL believes Russiagate, Trump is Putin’s puppet, and now Ukrainegate. Have you no shame?

Apparently, you haven't read the Mueller Report. It said the ONLY reason Trump didn't conspire with Russia, is that they thought he's too stupid. Every day, in every way, Trump is aiding and abetting Vladimir Putin.

Trump has confessed to extorting the Ukrianians. It's not even a question.

No, the report never said that. You are just too stupid to read and comprehend what the report said.

The Report most certainly did say it. It said that it was not clear that the Trump Campaign knew that the Russian operatives they were speaking and coordinating with, were operatives of the Russian intelligence services. They need to prove this knowledge in order to prove "intent". It was their excuse for NOT charging members of the Campaign with conspiracy. In Part I of the Report, Mueller opined that the Russians didn't make any sort of cooperation agreement with the Campaign because of the chaotic and unreliable nature of Trump and his ability to control his worst impulses.

But the Trump Campaign's corrupt behaviour pales in comparison to Donald Trump's public admission that he used the threat of withholding military aid which the Ukrainians urgently needed, in exchange for a partisan and political investigation of Crowdstrike, and the Bidens. Coupled with the withholding of that military aid, and the work of Trump political appointees and Rudy Guliani to enforce this request, as amply demonstrated by the Volker texts.

thats irrelevant because its a matter of opinion,,,
It is more than just an opinion

It is a potentially impeachable act. Trump left himself open to charges....he was that blatant in his request

They are not one in the same and they should be kept separate.

Trump the POTUS can use his DOJ through official channels. Once he includes his personal lawyer he has now made it about the campaign and not corruption.

We have been told that Obama used the Fed Govt against Trump..:using your standard he was within his right to do so

and he is using the DOJ thats why he told Ukrain to contact them

no dbl standards

He also told them to talk to his personal attorney

OK,,,

Which shifted it from the actions of the President of that US to a candidate using the power of his office against an opponent.

We should not approve of such things

using the DOJ proves you wrong,,,
Oh? What role did the DoJ play in this?

He can't break the law to do that. His job is to uphold the law, not break it.
as POTUS he broke no laws
Of course he did. It's illegal to solicit campaign help from a foreign national -- which is what he did when he asked the president of Ukraine to find dirt on one of his political rivals.

his responsibilities as POTUS override that
There is no presidential responsibility that allows a president to break the law. You have a serious malfunction.

Here is your chance to do what no libtard has done thus far. What law was broken?
§30121 Contributions and donations by foreign nationals

(a) Prohibition

It shall be unlawful for-

(1) a foreign national, directly or indirectly, to make-

(A) a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State, or local election;

(B) a contribution or donation to a committee of a political party; or

(C) an expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication (within the meaning of section 30104(f)(3) of this title); or

(2) a person to solicit, accept, or receive a contribution or donation described in subparagraph (A) or (B) of paragraph (1) from a foreign national.

A candidate is not allowed by law to solicit foreign aid for their campaign. Trump cannot hide behind the Executive branch to violate the law.
yet the hillary campaign paid steele. where was he from again?
And yet, she didn't. She paid Fusion GPS, an American company. There's no law against that.
so great. trump can setup a company to do this for him.

if you're gonna let one side bypass this for any stated reason, you must allow all. period. end of story. this one sided shit is killing us all and people are so quick to put the noose around their neck and kick out their own chair because they hate the other side so much they can't see they're really looking in a mirror.
I'm not letting anyone pass. Trump solicited aid from a foreign national. That's illegal.

Hillary solicited aid from Fusion GPS. They're an American firm and that's legal.

Fusion GPS solicited aid from a foreign national at Hillary's request for dirt on her opponent in an election That's illegal.

The President of the United States asked for cooperation from a foreign head of state, and that is perfectly legal.
That may be illegal. That would be a crime by Fusion GPS if it is.

The president cannot solicit foreign aid for his or her own campaign.

all true except one correction, he held up the arms money a month or two before, not just one week before, because in the texts of the Ambassadors and diplomats, they mention a quid pro quo of the arms money for a meeting in the whitehouse etc....

So it was going on long enough for the Ukrainian gvt to know all about the money being withheld until they agreed to his "favor"

trump screws up a lot of shit. he's far from alone in that but the focus on the unhinged left.

he speaks off the cuff and doesn't check facts first. hell that's done by the minute in here if not faster. while i agree we should hold our president to higher standards, we are not excused from the same. we scream that we live under 2 sets of laws but then enjoy that separation when it suits our own purposes.

trump, like any other president before him, will get stuff right, and he will get it wrong. he alone isn't our issue. when i argue against the left it's not to defend trump, but to stop the hypocrisy practiced against rights we all in fact share. hating someone doesn't mean they have less rights than we do yet we go there constantly as if we're justified by superior emotions somehow.

we either all live by the same rules, or we don't. start making up excuses to hold yourself out of such accountability, don't get mad when others do as well; yet that's what our culture does anymore.

Apparently it’s because the blob asked a foreign power to investigate the son of a political opponent in return for military aid.
The “political opponent” part of this is where this whole thing falls on its face. You aren’t sheltered from legal scrutiny just because you happen to be running for political office. This is where you and many other people are being led astray. I don’t care about whether or not trump gets impeached over this, the fact remains that asking for information about someone allegedly committing a crime transcends elections. But if you want to go ahead and support stopping anyone from being investigated because they happen to also be running in an election then go right ahead. But be honest with yourself about it.
"The “political opponent” part of this is where this whole thing falls on its face. You aren’t sheltered from legal scrutiny just because you happen to be running for political office."

That applies to Trump too.
No shit. But the president asked for info about a person who may have committed a crime. Adding in that he’s a candidate for president or “political opponent” is irrelevant. The executive branch is allowed to request information to investigate corruption. I’m not even trying to defend trump on this, I couldn’t possibly care less who sits in that office anymore. If you want joe fucking Biden to be your president you can have at it. At this point I would hope there’s no one left who would want biden to be the president after everything we’ve learned about him but I’m sure there’s still plenty of you who don’t care. I’m just glad some corruption has been exposed. If trump goes down for exposing it then that’s good enough for me. You can go back to fighting over dem and repub now

been in IT all my life.

a copy may or may not be a copy and there is no reasonable excuse to NOT examine the actual server. if i read the left correctly they're upset they got a COPY of trumps phone call and demand the original EXACT one. yet, when it comes to their own hacked servers, a copy is fine and trustable.

don't allow your side to do things you won't allow the other side to do. all there is to it.

The Hillary Campaign DID NOT hire or pay for Steele. The Hillary Campaign asked their law firm to opposition research. The law firm hired Fusion GPS, an American company, to provide that research. The Hillary Campaign paid Fusion GPS for opposition research. Hillary's lawyers only spoke to Fusion GPS, and had no knowledge of who was conducting that research.

In legal terms, this is called an "arm's length transaction". Hillary had no connection to or communication the researcher. Steele didn't know who the client was. That is how you do it.

But all of this talk of Biden and Hillary and what happened in past administrations is absolutely irrelevant to Donald J. Trump attempting to extort the Ukrainian government into "finding" evidence to smear Joe Biden in exchange for Javelin missiles. This is a flat out illegal abuse of power, a sell out of his country, and an impeachable offence.

So if Trump hires an American company to solicit campaign funds from foreign donors that would be perfectly legal using your logic?
Had he done that, it would have been illegal. He cannot hire an American company to hire a foreign national.
