It is true that some conservatives would still prefer a world in which gay relationships are still part of the underground, carried out in secret, or only in locations where it is accepted. Show business, the other arts, and the lower levels of organized crime were once havens for gays to be themselves. We dont' have that world, anymore. Same-sex relationships are accepted by the majority of people, and their rights to be public about them are protected by the courts.

It is natural in books that such relationships will be portrayed. Since the percent of people who are in such a relationship is much smaller that than of opposite sex couples, it would also be natural that only a small percent of books would depict them compared to the number of opposite sex couples. I'm not sure that is what is happening. It appears that librarians are going out of their way to spotlight books with that kind of material. I haven't seen anyone take the time to compile the data, but it would be interesting to see it.

My objection, and the objection of most conservatives who object, is to the sexually explicit material. Look up the book "Gender Queer," and you will see what I'm talking about. I would post the images and text for you, but it would violate Board rules against child porn. That liberals defend it is disgusting.

It's like the idea that taking kids to strip shows and teaching them to be strippers, which would have been rightly horrifying a few years ago, is now fine, so long as the strippers are drag strippers. I would be furious if a school took my kids to a heterosexual themed topless bar as well.

It really does not matter if an LGBT book being banned has sexual content in it. It will be banned either way. Any mention of a gay relationship is automatically condemned.
