Let’s talk about repealing the Second Amendment

-- bans on 'assault weapons and 'high capacity' magazines -- all of which will fail at circuit level.
As I suggested with my earlier reply, we can agree on those sort of attempts to fix the problem, will fail.

I'm suggesting that the only thing that can succeed are appeals from the hearts of parents who have been denied the lives of their children. However, we should be able to agree that the level of violence and slaughter by gun has yet to come anywhere close to the point at which the people will rise up and say that they've had enough.

Mass shooters at school are becoming more efficient on their methods and their choices of weapons used have become much, much more capable of killing in the short amount of time allotted by police capability to act.

Do you have other suggestions?

I know. That's the point. You're wasting time and money, only to harass law abiding gun owners.

There's no rational, reasoned argument for a ban on AR15s or 20-30-50-100rd magazines.

Funny ho wyou say that in response to an article calling for exactly that.
Your rational is irrational. It comes from wanting all guns and all ammunitions you "think" you have the right to.

You do not. Anymore than in any other country where there is no 2nd amendment allowing people to buy some guns.

Educate yourself:

In the coming decades the political climate will likely change where the composition of the Supreme Court will be such that Heller, McDonald, and Bruen will be overturned, well before the political climate will be such to support amending the Constitution to repeal the Second Amendment.

Yes, there is a rational argument. The founders even thought the reason to be so important, that they wrote it down...

There's no sympathy to come from the pro-gun lobby with that sort of emotional appeal to them as human beings.

The children could be forced to lie down on the road and have an 18 wheeler run over their heads, and still they would feel no compassionate.

They feel no responsibility in the least for the slaughter with their guns.

From their midst come the good guys with guns who become the bad guys with guns who turn to killing children instead of less satisfaction with killing of animals.

Who is this "we" you are referencing? What Americans are looking for Canadian input into our 2nd Ammendment?

They don’t need to. They are having stunning success regulating the 2A out of its intended purpose to begin with. With no shortage of self professed 2A supporters tripping over one another in their zeal to show compliance with every infringement they come up with…
No shit, have you ever been over on CalGuns? What a sad and sorry lot.

LOL.....That said I believe that worm will turn a bit when the ATF comes out with their brace rule.....Talk about putting a federal agency on ignore. :laughing0301:

Millions of brace owners will be like:

You'd be surprised. Given how quickly these so called patriots emote their compliance with checks. registries, and permits... They'll line for the next infringement with glee, just to brag at how compliant they are.

Because rational, reasoned people are not swayed by fallacious appeals to emotion.
Why are you?
We have nothing to disagree upon. The only solution for the problem you've indtroduced with this thread, is in the number of parents of children whose hearts have been broken by the loss of their little ones.

That number must be increased at least double or even threefold.

And still the gun lobby won't change their minds. Only the slaughter will overwhelm to people into taking action to save themselves and their children.

That will be the day that there is no longer an America in the sense of what America means to people of human decency.

We’ll see.

None of us will be around at the end of this Century – but the merits of this issue will.

It’s perfectly reasonable to infer that the political climate will be as such – including appointments to the Supreme Court – that the Second Amendment will be interpreted as a collective rather than an individual right.

Remember, no one believed Roe would be overturned.

It’s perfectly reasonable to infer that the political climate will not be as such – including appointments to the Supreme Court – that the Second Amendment will not be interpreted as a collective rather than an individual right.

With any luck, Democrats will campaign on the promise they will appoint justices who will overturn the individual right to keep and bear arms.

My views :
It's well worth attempting the uphill task? Gee...the lobbyists must work so hard & tirelessly! lol. :)

Facts:
Summary
In sum in order to REPEAL an amendment, we must first ratify a NEW amendment that repeals a prior amendment. This is primarily achieved via two-thirds of the US Senators (67 of 100 Senators), two-thirds of US Congressmen (290 of 435 Congressmen), and three-fourths of ALL of the states (38 of 50 state legislatures) and that’s why it has only happened once before.

There is no repeal of the 2nd amendment planned at all. It is all in the minds of those who are addicted to guns and will not consider banning AR-15 and over 10 bullets used for some guns at a time. Background check.

Republicans absolutely need to stop inciting gun addicted people that the 2nd amendment is ever going to be repealed and their guns confiscated.

This is adult abuse on other adults, especially those who are not mature to deal with it.
You are a liar and an idiot.

You stupid lying Moon Bats claim that you support the right to keep and bear arms (most of the time, except when you don't) but then you do everything possible to infringe upon it. The more Liberal the state or local government the more infringement. Just look at the shit they passed in Oregon recently. Look at California, New York and most Democrat controlled big city shitholes where the state doesn't have supremacy. Major infringements upon a Constitutionally guaranteed right.

Name those infringements.

Name those infringements.
Lets just go with the high points:

Ban on 'assault weapons'
Ban on "high capacity" magazines
Requirement to obtain a permit to purchase a firearm
Requirement to register firearms

When the Second Amendment’s plain text covers an individual’s conduct, the Constitution presumptively protects that conduct. To justify its regulation, the government may not simply posit that the regulation promotes an important interest. Rather, the government must demonstrate that the regulation is consistent with this Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation. Only if a firearm regulation is consistent with this Nation’s historical tradition may a court conclude that the individual’s conduct falls outside the Second Amendment’s “unqualified command.”
