Liberal book burners get "Huck Finn" Banned at Philadelphia school

Like the liberals say "We oppose censorship unless there's a good reason for it".

The politically correct crowd just got a great American novel banned

dec 14 2015 A suburban Philadelphia school expelled “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” from its curriculum over the book’s overuse of the N-word.

The Friends’ Central School removed the Mark Twain classic from the 11th-grade American literature class last week after students said it made them feel uncomfortable, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

“We have all come to the conclusion that the community costs of reading this book in 11th grade outweigh the literary benefits,” principal Art Hall said in a letter to parents.

But the principal insisted it isn’t censorship.

“I do not believe that we’re censoring. I really do believe that this is an opportunity for the school to step forward and listen to the students,” Hall said.

The book will remain in the private school’s library even though it’s no longer on the required reading list. The class will assign “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” in place of the Twain work.

What books were burned? And what liberals?

So liberals want reparations based on a history they want to pretend doesn't exist?

I don't even pretend to understand whatever the hell you think you are saying.

Presuming you are speaking of reparations for slavery- this liberal is opposed. As a liberal though, I did approve of the reparations signed into law by Ronald Reagan to the survivors of the Japanese internment camps.

Well then, let's get right to the matter at hand, ARE you for banning books?

What books were banned? They're still at the school. They're just not part of the curriculum.

I think the school made the wrong call. But its a private school. So they have a lot more wiggle room.

No.

Well let me hedge that slightly.

I think it is appropriate to ban explicit pornography in schools, along with books on making explosives. I think that there are very exceptional cases that warrant censorship in schools.

What about you?

As I have said before a lot of these kids are in for a hell of a surprise when they leave school and get into the real world and discover no one gives a rats if they are uncomfortable over something.

It's already happening, hell they now demand "safe places", bunch of pussies

Yeah- Christians are such pussies.

Harry Potter banned by Christian school

Medowie Christian School has defended a decision to ban witches and warlocks from its annual book week parade and the Harry Potter series from the school library.

Agree on porn and explosives. That seems like common sense to me as it does you (probably not for everybody). But Huck Finn and other American classics? Of course not. You can't avoid repeating bad history if you aren't educated on it.

Agreed. The school made a bad call in my opinion. Almost all schools follow a policy of inclusion of Huck Finn and the like.

But the book was hardly 'banned'. Or 'burned'. It was just removed from the curriculum. You can still check it out in the school's library.

No disagreement there.

Though again- as a private religious school they have as much right to 'ban' Huck Finn as they have to ban Harry Potter.

I would disagree with their choice- but any parents who disagree can simply change schools.

You gullible fool I guarantee the book has been put on permanent "checked out" status. All libraries and schools do that with books they disapprove of.

I ask the liberals again. Why is a book banned as offensive to blacks because the book uses a word that blacks use all the time themselves???

And you of course base this upon the voices in your head.

Lets just remind everyone that you lied in the OP- as you tend to do.

"Huck Finn" is not banned- you just lied.

The is just more of the typical actions of the liberals. Book burning is in their heritagè

I ask you once again why did you start a thread lying about a book being banned?
IT was no lie as it is effectively a ban and certainly not promoted for reading AS IT SHOULD BE.

Flat out lie.

Not a surprise because Shootspeeder does that- but a flat out lie.

This week, a Montgomery County school removed Huckleberry Finn from its curriculum after a group of students said the book made them uncomfortable.

Hall said the book will remain in the school library. Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass will be taught in the 11th-grade courses, potentially alongside a second novel.

And by 'guarantee', you mean you're just making shit up?

Show me, don't tell me. Because your personal 'guarantee' isn't worth the electrons wasted in transmitting it from your keyboard to my screen.

It gets banned on a regular basis by by the zannies of both sides. People do not like the message. The statists hate it as well as the elmer gantry types. They do not like the fact that Huck gets Jim's freedom and preserves it. They hate the message of the Jeppesen Sanderson feud. They hate the exposure of the Duke and the Dauphine for the frauds they are. There are good reason the left and the right anti freedom types hate that book so passionately, and why, despite its deficiencies, we should make sure it stays on library bookshelves.
