Instead if parsing words and nitpicking I dont think its the fact thst a child can acknowledge an attraction to a certain sex at an early age, it's the fact that an 8 year old second grader is identifying himself with a sexual identity term that most of us gen X'ers never heard of until our teen years. How do you know its the adults- and not the kids at his school?

Unfortunately lots of kids are taught that boys that appear 'effeminate' are 'queer' or 'fags' by older kids or their parents- and then bully those kids.

You either haven't been around very long or you are ignoring just how bad it was for gays in the 20th century. In the 50's or 60's a gay child could look forward to continual harassment in school, expulsion from college, loss of jobs and even jail if he was discovered. Even in the latter part of the century, gay bashing, and firing because of sexual preference was common. Until recently gays have been outcasts. This boy's future is certainly bright compared to previous generations.

IMHO, you can not teach a child sexual preference but you can teach the child to hide their preference. This is what society has done for centuries, often with tragic results.
