Majority of Americans favor wealth tax on very rich: Reuters/Ipsos poll

It is almost impossible to identify and tax all of someone’s wealth.

But as they move that wealth around, the transaction can be taxed

Why should anyone's wealth be confiscated just because it is there?

Because that is where the money is
You can’t get blood out of a turnip. The poor and working class do not have it

800px-Distribution_of_Wealth_in_the_United_States.svg.png

Pretty graph but, typically, you dodged the question.

Why should anyone's wealth be confiscated just because it is there?
Because Congress has a Constitutional responsibility to raise revenue to run the people’s government

The best source of revenue is from those who have wealth, not those who do not

Maybe, just maybe the government should live within the means of the revenue now collected.

You're a communist. YOU want to confiscate personal property/wealth that has already been taxed. That makes you an :asshole:

We the people decide what the means are

Taxation is the price we pay to live in a civilized society

What evades me is if the economy is doing great & employment is great how come the middle/working class are falling behind, and the list of people living in poverty and the number of homeless people keeps growing. some places where wealth rules no regular paycheck person can afford to live there any longer even if it is the place where they were born. some one explain this please.
The rich get richer

Doesn’t make a great economy

Hasn't change my view. Only supports it - you're a communist or have communist values.

It’s a dishonest question. There’s a lot of difference between “pay the most” or “pay the least”.

You aren’t using any loopholes because average people don’t have the means or capability to do so. Loopholes are for the elite.

How is it a dishonest question? Why are you dodging the question? Do you avoid taking deductions you are entitled to take so you can pay more in income tax or do you take those deductions so you pay the least you can legally pay?

What is your definition of "loophole"? What "loopholes" are available to the elite and not available to average people?
It’s a false dilemma.

A loophole is taking advantage of the tax code to lower liability in a way that was clearly not intended.

Then it's clearly available to everyone, not just the "elite", while it is available.

Its available only to those with the resources to take advantage of it. Lawyer and accountants don’t work for free.

Do we have a great economy today? Arguably, the best in our history.

Specifically, how much was taken out of your pocket because Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates acquired a quarter of a TRILLION dollars in the past 50 years?

Are you now or have you ever been a member of the communist party?
Fess up comrade

Yep. And it's only available to those who do as they're told, who jump through whatever hoops Congress, and their lobbyists, have set up.

We have a great economy, but not a great society
We are the wealthiest nation on earth, yet trail behind other countries in how we treat our workers, retirement, modern infrastructure, public healthcare, education, public services

The reason is that we allow our super wealthy to duck contributing to the society they benefit so well from

Then it's clearly available to everyone, not just the "elite", while it is available.

Nope, not even close! Childish effort, but not even close. You did not have to be qualified to buy a Lamborghini in order to take advantage of the SUV tax credit. That's why I met with my CPA at least twice a year. If there was something available that would same me taxes, this year or down the road, I wanted to be prepared.

Running out of excuses, aren't you? True, lawyers and accountants don't work for free but you don't have to be among the "elite" to afford their services.

You make that statement after ignoring my question about how much more they should be paying, since they are already paying the most now.

Heh.. right. You just have to buy a fucking SUV. SUV manufacturers might love this shit. Idiots who think they're getting "free shit" might love this shit. The rest of us see it for the powerplay it is. Congress shouldn't have this kind of power.

I would put a one percent tax on all stock transactions

Anyone making over a million a year would pay at a 50 percent tax rate

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - The idea of imposing a wealth tax on the richest Americans has elicited sharply divergent views across a spectrum of politicians, with President Donald Trump branding it socialist and progressive Democratic presidential contenders Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders prominently endorsing it.

snip

Among the 4,441 respondents to the poll, 64% strongly or somewhat agreed that “the very rich should contribute an extra share of their total wealth each year to support public programs” - the essence of a wealth tax. Results were similar across gender, race and household income. While support among Democrats was stronger, at 77%, a majority of Republicans, 53%, also agreed with the idea.

Majority of Americans favor wealth tax on very rich: Reuters/Ipsos poll

If this is true, then the experiment called the United States of America as we know it is done....

Great. What is the consensus definition and criteria for “the very rich”? Is it more asset-based or more annual income-based?

wealth tax is bullshit. its a penalty for being successful. The very very wealthy can just start investing more in other countries and take their wealth with them.

It's a shame when society is full of IDIOTS. Who thinks taxing the rich makes it all better. gawd u fkrs are morons.
