I always view Macron's win as much like Trump's - a complete outsider with no political resume representing a repudiation of the political status quo.

But it`s us who the whole world is laughing at. Are there any Trumps that aren`t crooks?

Not everyone is laughing; some are too aghast at America having such a person as President.

The French have very strong sentiments for brotherhood and solidarity; laudable traits.

when the french soccer team does well, the french become very nationalistic

When the French army gets involved in something, it is serious and acts that way. It is supported, too. But French nationalism is so unlike American that there really should be another word for it.
