McCarthyism Style Witch-Hunt Attacks Baseball Players

1. Julius Rosenberg
2. Ethel Rosenberg
3. Morton Sobell
4. David Greenglass
5. Klaus Fuchs
6. Kim Philby
7. thru -who knows? Wittingly or otherwise, Jim Wright and the traitors (or useful idiots) in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives (late 1980s) who tried to hand the Soviet Union the western hemisphere on a platter. God bless Ronald Reagan's brave, honorable soul.

There you go, Itsthetruth.

I have yet to figure out why anyone cares what happens to these grossly overpaid, whiny, testosterone poisoned jocks in the first place. They've made their bed...let 'em lie in it.

Oh, yeah - the thread topic! LOL - I had to read that twice, Bully. I thought you'd finally flipped. We've wandered pretty far afield here.

Well it's nice to know, I wasn't the only one going HUH! :D

Itsthetruth:

Just one more thing: The Soviet-employed Rosenberg spy ring didn't divulge infomation of any great significance to the communists - only the f***ing atom bomb! When he sentenced Julius and Ethel to death, Judge Irving Kaufman told them, "I consider your crime worse than murder. The Korean War, with its more than 50,000 American deaths, is a direct result of your treachery - and who knows how many more will die....?". So, you see, we're not talking about cute radical chic here. The traitors who threw in their lot with the communists made a conscious choice to aid the forces of death and destruction, and the sworn enemies of their own nation. Was McCarthy a prick? By all accounts, yes. But, what do you call someone, then, who abets the murder of hundreds of millions?

In the final analysis, I thank God McCarthy was around.

The Europeans are still suffering from Kathianne-ism.

It's no laughing matter. Nation after nation exposed to her criticism.

What is next. Saddam was a dictator.

You sir just presented two completely different and contradictory points of view in the same post! That is an incredible accomplishment and I hope you have a reasonable explanation for it.

At first you correctly point out that Jospeh McCarthy ruined peoples lives, that people were blacklisted and that some of these people were communists. From your comment, it appears you did not endorse McCarthy's witch-hunt and the government blacklisting of people who were in some cases "communists" or were sympathetic toward socialism or some form of Marxism.

A little later you state just the opposite opinion, boldly declaring that people who believe in communism are not protected by the Bill of Rights and therefore "DO NOT have the right to that particular point of view". !?!?
Sir .... that was exactly the position of Joseph McCarthy and was the government justification for the witch-hunt and blacklisting of political dissidents!

So which of the above opinions to you really believe in and which of your opinions do you reject?

One does not exclude the other.

McCarthy was an unprincipled charlatan who whipped anti-communism into an irrational frenzy to suit his own purposes. Much like Kennedy who holds meetings with folks like you, but doesn't really give a rats-ass what you think. So I hold McCarthy and his committee in contempt - not for their goal, but for their methods.

I do believe that communists should have been ferreted out and exposed. But I don't believe that the steamroller tactics employed by McCarthy were ethical or just. Many innocent people suffered because McCarthy was more interested in self-promotion than in exposing communists.

So, once again - try reading something NOT contained in a comic book. Otherwise you'll never be able to tread water on this board.

Nope - just another unfortunate, misinformed victim of liberal indoctrination. Speech codes, doublethink, and political correctness - these are the brainchildren of liberalism. Conservatives don't need any of that bullshit, because we have a secret weapon - the truth. Armed with the truth, you need never fear plain talk, open discourse, or the refreshing, restorative, life-affirming light of day. I highly recommend truth - tell your college professors to fuck off, and think for yourself.

Only one thing wrong with names you presented. They were not members of the American Communist Party! I don't believe they were even accused by JosephMcCarthy and his gay pals Roy Cohn and J. Edgar Hoover with being members of the Communist Party. Now if you've uncovered evidence that the Rosenbergs, Fuchs, Philby, etc., were members of the American Communist Party I suggest you provide it now.

The Soviet Union like the United States had spies. But the Soviet Union's spies were not members of the Communist Party. Both nations currently have spies on their payroll. And just like 50 years ago none of Russia's spies are members of the Communist Party.

The whole purpose of the big "red spy scare" was to create the impression that American radicals, socialists and self-proclaimed Marxist were actually Russian spies! And that was utter nonsense. Today the government and right-wing elements are trying to whip up a new hysteria against any individual or organization that dissents from government policy. Today they call such a person or organization "terrorist". Red baiting doesn't have the impact that it did half a century ago. They hope terrorist baiting will work.

If that's true, what are the chances right-wing government and private forces will stop their political blacklisting and harassment of those who disagree with the Bush governments policies?

And it would be nice if these great right-wing defenders of the Bill of Rights and Constitution would not support laws such as the Patriot Act that are undermining our freedoms and liberties.

You're just talking crazy now. I'm afraid this is a prime example of the intellectual slovenliness and atrophy bred by boards like DU. I pity you.

Extraordinary. This is wrong on so many levels, I scarcely know where to begin.

That's because, in Ronald Reagan, America at long last had a president with the courage to call evil by its name. President Reagan called it by its name, and then proceeded to break its balls. Kind of like now, with President Bush. You can hide from evil or confront it.

Please cite an example.

"Big red spy scare"???!! The theft of atomic secrets wasn't some daydream, Jack. Neither were the communist aggressions and millions of deaths that followed as a direct consequence of the Rosenbergs' treachery. Neither, for that matter, was 9/11. You ought to pull you head out of your ass.

LOL! It kind of brings us to the old "chicken or the egg" question:

Do people like this gravitate toward DU, or does DU do this to formerly sane people?

That site should require a hazmat endorsement!

I have just one question to ask you. Do you believe that members of the American Communist Party were spies stealing military/intelligence information for the old Soviet Union governments?

If your answer is yes, I'd like you to name just 100 ..... no just 10, members of the Communist Party who were charged and convicted of being Soviet spies and what great military secrets did they reveal to the Soviet regime?

I read it. Not even one member of the Communist Party is listed as being a Soviet spy. So what is your point?

So what in the world does that have to do with the Communist Party? They were not members and were never charged with being members.

Like I have said ..... the Communist Party never got involved in spying and the Soviet Union never used members of the Communist Party to spy for them. That's just a historic fact and so far I have yet to see any evidence posted here demonstrating that isn't true.

Now a lot of people thought the evidence against the Rosenbergs was questionable "they stole the Atomic bomb secret" and correctly believed the real purpose of the prosecution was to smear everyone who was a socialist, marxist or communist as "spies". It worked. You still believe that myth!
