Low wages for the people that make ALL the money for the company, and now they're charged for that pay.

Paid via Card, Workers Feel Sting of Fees

A growing number of American workers are confronting a frustrating predicament on payday: to get their wages, they must first pay a fee.

.............

Devonte Yates, 21, who earns $7.25 an hour working a drive-through station at a McDonald’s in Milwaukee, says he spends $40 to $50 a month on fees associated with his JPMorgan Chase payroll card.

“It’s pretty bad,” he said. “There’s a fee for literally everything you do.”

........

For Natalie Gunshannon, 27, another McDonald’s worker, the owners of the franchise that she worked for in Dallas, Pa., she says, refused to deposit her pay directly into her checking account at a local credit union, which lets its customers use its A.T.M.’s free. Instead, Ms. Gunshannon said, she was forced to use a payroll card issued by JPMorgan Chase. She has since quit her job at the drive-through window and is suing the franchise owners.

My favorite Jewish scumbag is laughing. Good ole Jamie Dimon. One of the biggest pieces of filth to ever occupy this planet.

Good point. Credit unions are very limited. If she had a bank account she would get either direct deposit or electronic transfer. Chase has electronic transfer by phone. But people with credit or banking problems sometimes have to use a credit union. A bank won't take them.

Natalie Gunshannon had an account. Her employer refused to direct deposit.

If you have credit or banking problems it's difficult to open an account anywhere. But this has nothing to do with the post.

Wal Mart just settle a class action law suit where they were charging for pay cards, they had to pay the employees back

She lied. Wisconsin law specifically forbids any fees to be tied to getting paid. Even if McDonald's attempts to argue that direct deposit is mandatory, the employee has the option of where to get the funds deposited.

Direct Deposit of Wages

I see you left this line out, which was the very next sentence before you snipped the article verbiage..

Certain transactions with the Chase pay card are free, according to a fee schedule.

I know for a fact they can; withdraw all of their pay in cash, or transfer their pay to a savings/checking account etc. for NO fee......

Pay on a card is not unusual...my friend is paid that way. (The Ex From Hell and her appetite for pills and Bacardi killed his credit, as well as much of his sanity.) The only fees are for a cash withdrawal at an ATM...I think $2. He can use it anywhere else (including getting cash back with it as a debit card) with no fee. The only other fee is for a lost or damaged card...I think $5.

Maybe they should just pay wages in hamburgers.

That would be

Assuming the allegation in the OP is true, it's out of order.
I'm happy to agree the workers are unskilled and don't deserve a larger wage but forcing them to use an expensive bank is clearly wrong.

Middle class Americans workers getting screwed ISN'T a middle class concern?

OBTW, if a company signs their employees up for 'The Card', does the company receive benefits from the bank?
