McDonalds Screws Their Employees Again

Assuming the allegation in the OP is true, it's out of order.
I'm happy to agree the workers are unskilled and don't deserve a larger wage but forcing them to use an expensive bank is clearly wrong.

Card fees

So workers that make ALL THE MONEY for a company don't deserve a high wage?

Sounds like someone needs to get Senator Elizabeth Warren involved... :eusa_pray: to go after those evil banksters

Low wages for the people that make ALL the money for the company, and now they're charged for that pay.

Paid via Card, Workers Feel Sting of Fees

A growing number of American workers are confronting a frustrating predicament on payday: to get their wages, they must first pay a fee.

.............

Devonte Yates, 21, who earns $7.25 an hour working a drive-through station at a McDonald’s in Milwaukee, says he spends $40 to $50 a month on fees associated with his JPMorgan Chase payroll card.

“It’s pretty bad,” he said. “There’s a fee for literally everything you do.”

........

For Natalie Gunshannon, 27, another McDonald’s worker, the owners of the franchise that she worked for in Dallas, Pa., she says, refused to deposit her pay directly into her checking account at a local credit union, which lets its customers use its A.T.M.’s free. Instead, Ms. Gunshannon said, she was forced to use a payroll card issued by JPMorgan Chase. She has since quit her job at the drive-through window and is suing the franchise owners.

I believe every word of this. MacDonalds is an exploiter of people, and the crap they sell can kill you. Bloomberg says MacDonalds earnings are down due to changes in the American diet. Couldn't be happier!

My friends there are plenty of fast food restaurants if that is what you want, you don't need MacDonalds.

I see you left this line out, which was the very next sentence before you snipped the article verbiage..

Certain transactions with the Chase pay card are free, according to a fee schedule.

I know for a fact they can; withdraw all of their pay in cash, or transfer their pay to a savings/checking account etc. for NO fee......

Here's one that states different.

"* One ATM withdrawal or over the counter cash withdrawal waived per pay period."

Always read the fine print.

Chase's response: "But a spokesman for JPMorgan Chase, which issues the payroll debit cards in question, said cash withdrawals are typically free at Chase banks and other outlets." McDonald's Franchise Sued Over Payroll Debit Cards - Free Enterprise

It's not the employer's fault if the employee goes to a non-Chase ATM to withdraw cash, any more than it's the employer's fault if the employee goes to a check cashing store (which many of them do, and are charged even more). They should make it clear that there are fees for certain ATM's and not for others, but shouldn't the employee be responsible for seeking the places where they will not be charged?

Anybody notice that the radical left seems more outraged about minor stuff than usual? Anytime the administration gets in trouble the radical left becomes hysterical about a McDonald's employee getting screwed by the bank that supports the president.

and this is our concern, why?

gawd save us from all these busy bodies

Middle class Americans workers getting screwed ISN'T a middle class concern?

OBTW, if a company signs their employees up for 'The Card', does the company receive benefits from the bank?

Idiots getting screwed because they are idiots is not my concern. I am willing to bet you right here and now that you could force me to use one of those cars, and I would end up not paying any fees because I would READ THE FUCKING MANUAL.

How about that, they could take all the money in cash, spend it just like they would if they cashed a check, and it wouldn't cost them a fucking dime.

This is an old story..Has nothing to do with Mc Donald's. It's the payroll processor. The worker's problem is with them....And the banks charging the fee.
No one likes bank fees. Banks have to be able to recoup their expenses for providing services.
People insist on free checking and other no or low pay services. So this is the result.
This is another example of business finding ways around government regulations so that it can protect itself.

Tell them to open an account and get direct deposit.

Natalie Gunshannon had an account. Her employer refused to direct deposit.

Yeah....Because the employer is not going to pay the fees. Why should they?

Workers don't make all of the money. In fact, most low skill/low wage labor actually COSTS the business money.
Businesses hire low skill people because the owner cannot do all of the work themselves.
If there is a way to cut back on labor, business will do just that.
Perfect example is the snow plow. Why pay 30 people to remove snow from a parking lot when one guy driving a truck with a plow can do the work faster than those 30 people?

Chase has no control over what a check cashing service, or non Chase ATMs, charges.

it is so funny to observe how the truth pops out of the self-proclaimed Croesus
