Megamillions Lottery Tickets Jumping from $2 to $5.

But there really should be more gambling. The dopes who can't do math could pay for so much more in society.

So they're increasing the poor tax.

Actually it's a tax on people bad at math regardless of economic level.

I'll still play my usual weeklies, as it's enough gambling for me, besides by 2-3 times a year trips to Atlantic City.

I just know the odds are not in my favor, or anyone else's.

It's ironic the bookies of old used to give better odds than the government on the numbers.

I think Lottery officials realize how many people jump in to play when the pot goes over $1 billion

$5 tickets will grow to a billion a lot faster than $2 tickets

And it won't keep the weekly players away enough to counter that.

So my $32 a week will probably go up to $41 a week. Ah well.

But the data shows which economic levels spend on lottery. As a percentage of their incomes.

So actually it's a poor tax.

So are cigarette taxes, alcohol taxes, hell even gas taxes.

And don't forget the "fat" taxes and soda taxes progressives love.

At least here they have a chance of getting some money back, even if it's a slim one.

Don't throw your money away on this con game... with AI everywhere now.... you would be crazy to play the lottery...

I think it's ill-advised because people will spend numerous small bills more easily than they will one larger bill. Same reason a bartender gives change in one-dollar bills instead of a five. You're more likely to tip him with ones than a five.

"Mega Millions players will have to pay $5 for a ticket — more than twice the current cost — beginning next April as part of an overhaul of the 22-year-old lottery game, Mega Millions announced on Monday.
The planned increase in the price of a ticket, which currently costs $2, is part of a larger effort to have larger jackpots and improve ticket buyers’ odds, the lottery said in a news release.
It will be the second time since the lottery game began in 2002 that the cost has gone up. The odds will be increased because of a change in the number of balls available for drawing, a Mega Millions official said, adding that more details would be released closer to April.
Joshua Johnston, the lead director at Mega Millions, said that researchers had found that lottery ticket buyers on average were spending more than $5 for a variety of different games."

I usually buy two $2 tickets when the lottery gets to $1 billion, but I won't waste $5. I predict others feel the same way. Still, there are many sick people who would play no matter what.

How do you people feel? Will this move cause you to stop playing, assuming you do? Or is $5 the new $1 because of Kamalinflation, and it won't matter?
If you won the $1 billion jackpot, do you actually get that amount as a one off cheque payment? What are the odds on that lottery?

It could be many times more and they'd still buy. Look at all the dopes in casinos.

Dopes are ones thinking they will come out rich.

I go there to have fun. My usual budget is $250 a night for gambling maximum.

I agree, but I usually throw away my $2 when it gets north of $500M. $5? I'm going to think twice.
