Michelle Obama criticizes Trump school lunch decision

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Michelle Obama on Friday criticized a Trump administration decision to delay federal rules aimed at making school lunch healthier, saying kids will end up "eating crap" instead.

Mrs. Obama told an annual health conference in Washington that more nutritionally sound school lunches are needed since millions of kids eat federally subsidized breakfast and lunch at school. Without mentioning President Donald Trump by name, she urged parents to think about the government's decision and "look at motives."

"You have to stop and think, 'Why don't you want our kids to have good food at school? What is wrong with you and why is that a partisan issue?" Mrs. Obama said. "Why would that be political?"

Michelle healthy eating crusade was a honorable crusade, but it is misdirected and ultimately a failure. If the food is so horrible the kids are not eating it then how is this a success. The problem with child obscenity is more that kids snack between meals on junk food and sugar filled snacks. This snacking is only exasperated by horrible lunches they don't eat.

Michelle's crusade is having a reverse effect.

Problems I've seen with kids, is if they eat a lot of junk food, they won't like healthy food anyway. The taste won't satisfy them, even if the healthy food is cooked correctly, which often times, it's not. Better peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, mac and cheese, spaghetti, hot dogs, pizza. This is stuff the majority of them they will eat, because the majority of kids don't eat all that good at home anyway. At least they won't be sitting in a class on an empty stomach, which is really bad. My opinion anyway.

One thing I have not seen in the posts I have read, which is not nearly all of them, is RECIPES.

Instead of going from whatever the kids will eat to all fresh vegetables, low sodium, low fat, low taste, some testing could have gone into recipes meeting somewhere in the middle and foods they would eagerly eat.

I grew up in the U.P. of Michigan . Lots of Swedes , Finns and Chippewa Indians . Beautiful and lightly populated and its right on Lake Superior , my parents owned 10 acres right on the Lake . Nothing but trees , rivers the lake , little lakes , huge snow , colder than heck and we have moose , wolves , bear , cougar and lots of little varmints . I'd go to work at 30 - 40 or more below zero . I worked on a Railroad . I am not Finn or Swede and am not a fish eater although I like / love Cod and Pollock battered and I like Cod poached or baked but always prefer battered and fried . Also like other mild tasting white fish . I am a meat eater and love sausage but I eat lots of vegetables because it only makes sense . ------------------------- Anyway one Christmas we were given some LUTEFISK , do you eat Lutefisk and the question is , do you like it Markie ??

Yes, I do like it. It brings back wonderful, wonderful memories. I remember the platter being passed around the table with the Lutefisk swimming in butter. Two of my other favorites are fish pudding (fiskepudding) and fish balls (fisk baller) both with a cream gravy with shrimp or lobster. I also enjoy a slice of fish pudding fried for breakfast with eggs. I just received some canned fish balls I received from an order I placed a week or so ago along with two jars of multebær (cloudberries) for an incredibly wonderful dessert along with eight boxes of Danish Desert.
