The fact is that it is bad for the country. The FBI was attempting to find the truth. It is Trump who is fighting the investigation. He could cooperate and allow the investigation to proceed. The point of appointing a special prosecutor was to try to repair the damage Comey had done to the credibility of the FBI and DoJ, and quick fixes that leaves questions unanswered would defeat that purpose.

The reason for appointing a special prosecutor was to repair the damage Trump did to the FBI. He is trying to politicize it. We now know that he was trying to impede the investigation.

Rosenstein gave his opinion. Comey broke no rules of the FBI. The fact that you have both candidates under FBI investigation is unprecedented. Comey outlined his reasons for not recommending a criminal prosecution which is within the purview of the FBI.

Rosenstein still needs to explain why he wrote the letter when he knew that Trump was going to fire Comey. It sounds like Rosenstein was playing politics.

Rosenstein was acting AG for this issue so his opinion is he DoJ's opinion. We all know why the Clinton campaign was under investigation, but to date no one has produced a single piece of evidence to justify the investigation into the Trump campaign; all we have seen so far are rumors and unsubstantiated allegations from the Obama administration. Comey may not have committed any crimes but Rosenstein's letter makes clear that Comey broke DoJ procedures repeatedly and assumed functions that rightly belonged to the Deputy AG.

Rosenstein has explained the letter. In a private meeting with Sessions, he made these complaints and Sessions told him to put them in writing. Rosenstein did believing the memo was for internal DoJ use only but Sessions then forwarded it to the President. All the evidence we have indicates Comey was playing politics with respect to the Clinton investigations he shut down and with respect to the investigation of the Trump campaign which has not produced a single piece of evidence to justify its existence.

A quick fix is better than no fix at all.

Which is what we now see unfolding.

Since the purpose of the special prosecutor is to repair the damage to the credibility of the FBI and DoJ, a quick fix that ignores possible conflicts of interest is no fix at all. The connection between Mueller's law firm and Kushner must be fully explored or a new special prosecutor must be found.

And, if that's true, then Mueller and his (former) law firm must make full disclosure, and DOJ must issue a 'papal dispensation' (waiver' for that purpose.

A waiver would only have to be issued if questions of conflict of interests had not been fully answered by the investigation, and that would leave Mueller's credibility tainted and make it impossible for him to accomplish the primary purpose of repairing the credibility of the FBI and DoJ Comey so grievously damaged.

There is also the further question of Mueller's relationship with Comey. It has been reported the two men worked closely together and developed a personal relationship during the Bush43 administration, so will Mueller be able to evaluate Comey's actions objectively?
