Possibly but I think freedom of the press is pretty close to where it should be.They can't and social media and right wing media are a huge reason why.
MAGAs have innate biases, which make them human. The rest of us have biases, too, but the rest of us watch news to get new information, whereas they use it to reinforce their biases.
I think if social media and mass media had been around in the 18th Century, the freedom of the press would look a little different than it does now.
You cannot fix tribalism and the inherent bias to seek out vindication of your priors by regulating what people see and hear. That causes a FAR worse situation because the increased ability for those in power to be able to directly influence public opinion. Diffusing that power is a better solution.
Moreover, this is not a problem confined to the right in any way. The left is just as delusional much of the time but the specific set of circumstances has heightened the problem on the right because we have a grifter that managed to take the lead and appeals to the masses. Tankies exist on the left just like trumpsters exist on the right, they just have not managed to get someone in power.
Nor is the left wing media much better. There is a reason that liberal and very liberal people think that over 1000 unarmed black people are killed by police every year when that figure is off by orders of magnitude. There is a reason people threated the convention catholic kids who were the ones being verbally assaulted, not the other way around. There is a reason that hands up, don’t shoot, a direct lie, is STILL believed by most on the left as a representation of what actually happened. There is a reason that online bobbleheads are calling Rittenhouse a ‘murderer’ and white supremist to this very day.
It is not because the liberal media is any more honest.
