Right. When I lived in Seattle, one time I was driving around one of the San Juan Islands and there is a compound on one of them that is for a white supremacist group. Creepy place all right. I'll bet they are armed to the teeth too. I guess if they don't cause any trouble, they are left alone, but I wouldn't like to have them as neighbors.

I see nothing new in this story. There are places like this in the Northwest. They aren't incorporated towns though, they are compounds: large areas of land with several houses. Fenced in to keep away anyone they don't like, especially law enforcement. Crazy folks, but as long as they don't actually bother anyone else or break the law, what can you do?

They are not in Seattle. As I said in my post, it is on one of the San Juan Islands. These are islands in the Puget Sound. It was not near a populated city or near the sea but inland, a fairly isolated spot. In order to get there from Seattle you have to take a ferry and do a lot of driving. This particular island is not popular with tourists; the weather sucks (cold, wet and rainly most of the year), not much to do, etc. People who live there are people who have some kind of agriculture (maybe Xmas tree farms), fishing, or just like to be away from it all. Also, it is a large island. The compound is only a tiny area of the entire island.

If we are to support free speech and other freedoms, we are obligated to support the right of these people to live how they like as long as they are not breaking laws and causing problems for others. I don't like it and would not want to live anywhere near them, but in the US they do have a right to live as they want, to believe as they want, etc.

You should get yourself up to the the Puget Sound area sometime: it's quite an amazing place; Seattle is only a fraction of what there is to see there.

If leftist journalists or antis come and try to make trouble, they just might break one of our local ordinances and would have to be arrested by our town constable. See?” he wrote.

Cobb has even built a concrete prison, where he plans to “lock up recalcitrant journalists and lefty commies who violate the codes or peace of the community.”
