New African American Defense Secretary begins dismantling our HERITAGE. You TRAITORS who didn't vote for President Trump are happy NOW

Strom Thurmond, who Joe Biden used to hang out with long time ago. Most of them switched. But Strom Thurmond was the biggest one...he Filibustered the Civil Rights Bill for over 20 hours because he hated it that much.

James Strom Thurmond Sr. (December 5, 1902 – June 26, 2003) was an American military officer, attorney, judge and politician who served as a United States senator from South Carolina from 1954 to 2003 and as the 103rd governor of South Carolina from 1947 to 1951. Thurmond served in the United States Senate for 48 years, at first as a Southern Democrat and then, from 1964 onwards, as a Republican. He ran for president in 1948 as the Dixiecrat candidate on a states' rights platform supporting racial segregation. He received 2.4% of the popular vote and 39 electoral votes.
You're off to a great start with one.

Who were the rest that switched.
the rest that switched are those who support Trump's 1776 commission

Symbols have power. Donald Trump loved to wrap himself in (and around) American flags on stage and speak of Abraham Lincoln, whose writings he never read and whose moral and political struggles he never could understand. I used to wonder during Trump’s first term if and when he would stop posturing and mugging and openly add the Confederate flag to his “Make America Great Again” stage-managed public events.

Trump never quite got there. But then, thank God, he lost his re-election bid. Instead we saw his supporters more and more openly carrying Confederate flags that had elsewhere over two generations gradually came down over State Capitols, Courthouses and Public Schools all across the “New South.” Trump’s administration ended in chaos, failure, and a preposterous “insurrection” where people died, and a Joint Congress in session was attacked by thugs carrying his blue banners and ... Confederate Flags.

It could have been much worse, had the election really been close, or elements of our military really proven disloyal to their oaths.

It ended with the Confederate Battle Flag momentarily flying over the nation’s Capitol, to our nation’s disgrace.

But the names of military bases will be changed, the name of Trump himself will fade into an opprobrium of history, and in time that flag will disappear altogether from our contemporary political life and partisan politics.

The parties switched in the 1960's after the Civil Rights Act. The Democratic southern Slaveowners of the Confederacy in the 1860's are now the Republican southerners of the 21st century.

Bill Moyers has mentioned this quote. He was an aide to LBJ before embarking on a long career in public broadcasting. This is from his book Moyers in America:

When he signed the act he was euphoric, but late that very night I found him in a melancholy mood as he lay in bed reading the bulldog edition of the Washington Post with headlines celebrating the day. I asked him what was troubling him. "I think we just delivered the South to the Republican party for a long time to come," he said.
-President Lyndon B. Johnson

This nation has had a bi-partisan consensus on equality for blacks since your side gave up on the issue.

Teh vast majority of what passes for wacism over the last 50 years have been minor disagreements over how to do that.

That you use such disagreements to divide us and inflame racial violence, is you being the bad guy.

Symbols do have power.

The Confederate Flag has been a harmless symbol of regional pride in this country, for 5 generations.

It is worth noting that the side that is so upset with the flying of the confederate flag is also the side that supports kneeling during the National Anthem.

You people are anti-American.

I weep.

I think it's a very good idea.

People who took up arms, attacked our nation and are traitors to our nation should not have any military base named after them.

Who are you to overrule the decisions of the generation that actually fought the Confederacy?

Good. Traitors and losers should not be remembered.
Go Fuck yoursel,f you cheese eating surrender monkey
Nah, the Confederacy lost. In fact got their butts whooped really, really bad. Grant whooped Lee's ass real bad.
With all the things that our country faces right now...spending millions and millions of dollars to rename things is what your side is going to waste it's time with? You're part of the Cancel Culture and you're too fucking stupid to realize what a farce that is!

... been a harmless symbol of regional pride.
If it were merely a “harmless symbol of regional pride” it would not be used as a “battle flag” for violent mobs invading and disrupting Congress, claiming to be “patriots” calling for hanging “traitors” like Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi, shouting out the name of the lame-duck Commander-in-Chief.

Will we even be allowed to name our dogs "Bobby Lee" and "Stonewall"?
That's funny but the answer is probably not. If you get caught the dog may have to be put down. You can try Jefferson, as in Jefferson Davis, and if the dog police come you can say it was named after George Jefferson. That might work. Going forward, we're going to have to be tricky when dealing with closed minded bigots.

I weep.

Funny. All those Confederates were Americans before the Civil War, and afterwards they were all pardoned in order to bring about actual unity and rebuilding. But as we know, Dems are all about dividing and destroying.

Well that was Lincoln's plan. Then he was assassinated......
By a Democrat.

An Unrepentant Southern Rebel. He was a traitor to the South. It's too bad he didn't get to swing in the breeze.
All those Northern cities with the same perma ghettos decade after decade after decade. There has to be an answer.

I weep.

Why do you want military bases named after traitorous people?
At some point you will want a military that does the job it was mandated to do. No one will follow officers and fellow soldier for long who are inferior.

Sure it would. Mobs often use symbols that are represent larger things in an attempt to appropriate them, or to appeal for further support from those things.

You seem really upset by the violence in dc and the anger directed at high ranking politicians.

I don't recall this type of emotion from you when we discussed the far greater and more widespread violence directed at regular American citizens over the last 5 years.

Do you understand that your selective outrage, undermines the credibility of your outrage.

Total non sequitur.

You do know the confederacy lost, right?

Oh good God , what is this? we are dealing with idiots.

George Wallace switched and ran as 3rd party in 1968. Actually won some electoral votes - last 3rd party candidate to do so. Wallace was the guy blocking black kids from integrating into schools in Alabama if you remember.
