The irony of the PC crowd involving themselves in the NHL is that back then in 60s and 70s and early 80s fighting was never allowed! No referee allowed two players to go at it as long as they were both standing. They broke the fight up immediately. Some idiots in the NHL or advisors changed the rules. No longer could anyone leave the bench when there was a skirmish, but now they would allow two fighters to have it out. Why was that more humane? It’s all so staged and bogus now. When the teams cleared the bench it was exciting and fun, and the only reason players fought was because the three linesmen and refs could not stop all that was going on. But they did stop them and no one fight got too carried away.

To those who think the NHL is boorish and out of control, you need to understand the nature of hockey. There is a lot hitting, checking, stick work, confrontations where it is bound to here and there morph into a bit of a brawl. Happens in football, baseball and basketball too, but the conditions are not near as ripe as hockey. Plus the players have a lot of equipment to protect them so it is not totally thoughtless.

Too bad more people cannot understand or relate to the game of hockey because the NHL playoffs are still the pinnacle of sports rivalries in many ways. My opinion.
