It follows the historic first democratic transfer of governmental power in Afghanistan's long war torn history.

Our troops along with those of the ISAF and the vast majority of Afghans made this historic achievement possible.

Politically here in the US how will the SOFA and the transfer of power be mocked and torn apart?

What's to mention. Iraq wanted to stick with the Bush withdrawal date. Once Bush confirmed Iraq was ready to go it alone in three years there was no way to convince them that they were not ready. That's why Bush should have negotiated a ten year deal as Obama did in Afghanistan.

You need to explain why Bush could not negotiate those seven extra years if Bush didn't agree that three were enough. Bush is the wimp vs Malikii. Bush stared the war and had five years to get his terms not agree to restrict his successor. But keep defending your wimp Bush. It shows your lack of critical thinking and reasoning ability.

Why was it Obama's failure to get a SOFA deal with Iraq? Obama had no authority or influence to change minds of Iraq's parliamentarians or Ayatollah Sistani or Muqtada al Sadr or Maliki who all opposed granting US troops immunity from Iraq's courts.

Obama offered to extend the terms of the Bush SOFA but it was the Iraqis that wanted to get rid of immunity. No one warned Obama that failure to leave troops would create such a disaster that warranted stationing troops in Iraq without immunity.
