I came across this 7.62 NATO (.308 Win.) Garand today and at first blush I thought it might be one of the US Navy conversions, but something seemed "off" about it.

I got to digging on my phone and found that it was a returned Garand converted into 7.62 Nato by a company in CA called Sacramento Armory....They sold them in the 90s for around $600.00.

The receiver was made 1/45 and it was rebuilt in 1948 or so going by the barrel date.

Unlike the Navy Garands that used a chamber sleeve in .30-06 barrels their early conversion (later ones used newly made 7.62 Nato barrels) this one had it's .30-06 barrel shortened from the rear by 12mm and re-chambered.

They are said to have shot very well and there is plenty of life left in the 1948 barrel....No real collector value though other than it's parts.

I gave $700.00 for it.

If it shoots good I might do a M1C Sniper clone as I already have a period M81 scope/mount.
