Offshore wind farms could tame hurricanes before they reach land, study says

and by compressing the air that passes through creates higher air temperature and therefore lower air pressure that can and will attract hurricanes.

Where do you get these ideas? I bet you think car windshields attract bugs.

This is what FCT meant when he mentioned your "fresh perspectives".

ps: higher air temperature does not create lower pressure. You may be thinking of the relationship between velocity and pressure. Besides which, your statement essentially says high pressure will create low pressure.

Several legit studies out that confirm Local Surface heating at wind farms. Due to interruptions of laminar wind flow that suppresses ground cooling.. If Prof Whatzhizname at Stanford can propose an offshore armada of 70,000 wind turbines, then that would be sufficient to influence atmos pressure due to surface heating/convection and might just register a measurable low pressure signature on the whole area..

Such a fleet of turbines would, as his model found, SLOW wind speed. What happens when you slow wind speed dude? Pressure RISES.

Offshore wind farms could tame hurricanes before they reach land, study says

For the past 24 years, Mark Z. Jacobson, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford, has been developing a complex computer model to study air pollution, energy, weather and climate. A recent application of the model has been to simulate the development of hurricanes. Another has been to determine how much energy wind turbines can extract from global wind currents.

In light of these recent model studies and in the aftermath of hurricanes Sandy and Katrina, he said, it was natural to wonder: What would happen if a hurricane encountered a large array of offshore wind turbines? Would the energy extraction due to the storm spinning the turbines' blades slow the winds and diminish the hurricane, or would the hurricane destroy the turbines?

So he went about developing the model further and simulating what might happen if a hurricane encountered an enormous wind farm stretching many miles offshore and along the coast. Amazingly, he found that the wind turbines could disrupt a hurricane enough to reduce peak wind speeds by up to 92 mph and decrease storm surge by up to 79 percent.

Depending on who you're...Well, being that many republicans build on the coast....A reason to support. If you're a sick storm lover like me = reason to oppose.

maybe but that sounds like a stretch

out here if the wind blows to strong

they shut them down

--LOL

it must be more common then stated

was surfing through the youtube to

post a piece on wind turbulence around windmills

and low and behold a bird strike in a video on turbulence

at 55 seconds another bird bites the dust

You almost gotta laugh. On one hand they claim that windmills do not disturb the normal west to east prevailing winds and then they tell us that they can change the flow of hurricanes. God help us when the environmental wackos try to justify the cost and maintenance and environmental impact on endangered migratory species by trying to convince their low information minions that they can tame freaking hurricanes. The ironic thing is that a series of windmills probably disrupts the million year old normal cyclic flow of prevailing winds but the likely scenario when a hurricane hits a windmills farm is shrapnel fans littering a hundred miles.

What percentage of that air mass is passing through those turbines and how much is its pressure as a whole being dropped? Very little and very, very little.

Wind mills to stop hurricanes, build walls to keep out tornadoes?
Now could this be the reason for these idiotic research papers:

How computer-generated fake papers are flooding academia
More and more academic papers that are essentially gobbledegook are being written by computer programs – and accepted at conferences

About as much as a throttled down turbo prop plane.. But YET, those "contrails" help to visualize how you get a measurable surface temp rise in a wind farm by breaking up convection and interferring with laminar surface wind flow.
