oh no did we just find Aliens ?

I don't know why we still even debate the idea that life exists outside of Earth. It's silly to think we are the only living things in the vast universe which is so massive that human brains can barely fathom the enormity of it.
According to Penn State, we are probably the only intelligent life form with the abilities that we have.

just think of all the animals there are on earth. How many can use tools to really get things done.

now, think of all the animals that used to be here

now think about the billions of years it took for us to get here.

odds are that when we meet aliens, it's us finding them on their planet.

Unless of course there are planets which have allowed a species to develop quicker because they have more abundance of food.
A food abundance would likely result in slower evolution

It would figure, the year the cubs finally win another world series is the year we find alien life.

If the aliens have cow faces & tentacles, would liberals push "racist" to not date one? Cause if they are alienated by the human races with their looks (or anything, the point is being a legitimate response), liberals gotta push it to the other direction all the way, no? Reverse oppression. This is serious. One day, aliens might be found. They might associate with us. They might look "not quite human 100%". Liberals might really push it. "Obligation" to procreate with a tentacle when asked to.

What if when they find us they're HUGE beings of some kind who discover us little things are very delectable tidbit snacks they just can't seem to get enough of?
:lol::lol:

Isn't that what Hawking said once about why we should not be looking for aliens, because if 'they' are anything like us humans in nature, we humans, won't be around for long....? maybe it wasn't him...?

Take another angle to the question.

Say we had an omniscient view of all sentient civilization at this moment, where along the left side being numbers of sentient civilizations and the lower being relative advancement in Earth years. I am guessing there would be a Bell curve like distribution. Now we would be at 2015, but where would the center of the Bell curve be? Before us? After us? right in the middle? Lets make a very conceited assumption and assume that we are in a two sigma deviation (deviation of 500 years) from the average, and that puts the center of the Bell Curve at about a thousand years behind us.

IF there are as many as a million sentient races in our galaxy we have still thousands of more advanced sentient civilizations ahead of us.

Moral of the story; WE ARE BEING WATCHED RIGHT NOW BY SUPER GENIUS ALIENS.

:D

A food abundance would likely result in slower evolution

Why? It would seem like it would allow for more leizure to contemplate issues other than gathering food.
Possibly, but an abundance of resources doesn't promote more efficient methods of procuring/utilizing said resources. Using the food example - if a creature doesn't have to compete (against others/environment/etc.) for food, then more effective means of acquiring it aren't needed and are unlikely to be developed. They'd probably never evolve the brain power TO contemplate issues.
In other words: if it works, why bother changing it?

there aren't any in over 1 million stars that have been searched.

sorry, but this is as good as it gets for light eons.
Now where do you get that 1 million number? Only a few thousand thus far have had a thorough investigation to see if they have planets. And our planet detecting abilities miss most the size of the Earth.

And why is that?

Most of the great empires have thrived because they had an abundance of food. If 50% of the people can grow the crops, then the other 50% can develop society.

You look at the development of peoples and you'll see that moving up to the next level had to do with people dedicated to doing other things, like producing pottery, weapons and so on.

Egypt did well. Now it doesn't because they can't produce as much food.
The Greeks and Romans had an abundance of food.
China too.

The Scandinavians did well when things started warming up. Greenland was called Greenland because it was GREEN.

Kornreich used a very rough estimate of 10 trillion galaxies in the universe. Multiplying that by the Milky Way's estimated 100 billion stars results in a large number indeed: 100 octillion stars, or 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars, or a "1" with 29 zeros after it.May 31, 2014

BUT searching 1 million stars out of the Universe isn't even 1 grain of sand out of all the grains of sand on Earth....?

open your mind (Quade) :D

there's nothing out there, nothing within generations of travel at light speed.

Nothing came to visit and we will most likely never find another race of 'people'

Give me the link to that story, I'd like to see how they come up with that conclusion.
And by the way, 1 million is a drop in the fucking Pacific when you consider the vastness of space and the # of stars.

considering we couldn't get to them for generations, there's no reason for them to not communicate.

or, most likely

there isn't anything out there

It's highly unlikely Greenland was green at that time. The sheet of ice covering it is several hundred thousand years old. During all that time the ice sheet covered like 80% of the island. The theory is they named it that to attract settlers. Nothing new false advertising.

Behavioral development is different from the evolution of a species, which is what i believed you were discussing.

Even so, food abundance could slow behavioral development. Less incentive to form civilizations if you can meet your needs yourself. If you don't need the better tools and weapons to help produce food why would you develop them?
