Because Fox would not have paid all of these women if the allegations weren't true. It was only when news of these payouts became public, and 70 advertizers pulled their ads from his show, that Fox fired him. Strictly a dollars and cents decision. He's was now a liability.

One of the law firms I worked for had a partner who was notorious for sexually harassing his secretaries. Every few years, the firm quiety paid off his secretary and she left the firm.
