Those who are always busy condemning Israel on this forum have never had anything to say about this. How come they were so silent?

Why Doesn't the EU Condemn Palestinian Torture?

More than half the 306 complaints about torture last year came from Palestinians who had been detained or imprisoned by Abbas's security forces in the West Bank; 11 detainees died in Palestinian Authority and Hamas prisons according to a report by the Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights.

The EU has refrained from condemning the Palestinian Authority or Hamas in wake of a report that pointed to an increase in human rights violations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

This is the same EU that regularly condemns Israel for building in the settlements or seizing funds belonging to the Palestinian Authority.

More recently, the EU condemned Israel for demolishing 22 Palestinian structures in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

They should be condemned for human rights violations.

Yet another reason why they should have their own state - then they can be held to the same standards and sanctions as any other state.

I am all for a Palestinian State. The question is where? No surrounding Arab country wants it in their country. And if established in Israel, the Palestinians would then be easy targets for Israel when they continue to attack Israel.

Abbas's security forces are armed, paid, and trained by the US with some support from the EU. They are under the ultimate command of a US officer and work in coordination with Israel.

How about those who were tortured and died under Hamas, like the article says?

That is a very sketchy description of what has occurred, for example, "President Bush in January ordered that $86 million be transferred to strengthen forces loyal to Abbas. The money was intended to build "legitimate security forces," provide law and order in Gaza and the West Bank, fight terror, and facilitate movement and access, especially in Gaza. It was to be used for "non-lethal supplies and training."

More and more Tinnie shows us he is a Hamas man. Of course he doesn't mention all the arms which are smuggled in to his friends. And, Tinnie, have you ever thought that if the other countries weren't so generous in aid such as food, your Hamas friends wouldn't have the energy to shoot off their AK 47's into the air.

He thinks Hamas is the equivalent of the Democratic or Republican parties here in the USA.

He wants to know how the Zionists can claim the Palestinians don't want peace when the Palestinian people themselves even elected Hamas to represent their deires regarding Israel.

Good post, thanks. This policy started with Oslo and Arafat and was stepped up considerably under Abbas. It came to a head in June of 2007 when Abbas attempted to overthrow the PA. He failed in Gaza but was able to shut down the government in the West Bank and with money and weapons from the US created an unelected government there.

Abbas has to go. For Israel he is but a hemorroid. With his leadership Israel would have had to address all the endless issues & demands of the Palestinians with world support. Thank goodnesss with Hamas Israel can & does just move on to better things for Israel & the world.

If they have their own state and continue to attack Israel then it's an act of war. There are consequences when one state attacks another.

Exactly, and very well put.

All torture should be condemned.

The fact that Hoss uses the word "too" in his thread title is at least an admission that Israel (and the US) use torture, I suppose.

It makes sense to work with the moderates, doesn't it?

Problem is the Palestinian terrorists would simply deny having attacked Israel. And claim Israel's retaliation started the conflict.

Truly I believe a two state solution would prove to be two states at endless war with Israel now having a big advantage in
having separated the Palestinians from the Israeli's should Israel have to retaliate against Palestinian attacks. As stated previously, the Palestinians would now be isolated easy targets for Israel without endangering any Israelis.

How nice that Saigon joins in on this thread, but he was very, very silent when all of Israel's alleged torture went on for post after post. Now we see that the Palestinians torture just like the other Arabs do in their countries. Since Saigon gets around and talks to people, perhaps he can tell us what the friends and relatives of those in Arab prisons says about the torture of prisoners there.

I am against it, too. The Palestinians are better off without money from the US with all the strings attached to it. I am also against the 8 million dollars a day we give Israel to maintain the Occupation and commit human rights abuses with, such as the killing of over 1500 children in Palestine since 2000.
