Hard to imagine they aren't wearing laser safety glasses. Especially given the money that's been spent on them, if anyone takes a few minutes to look.

Anyway, from the piece, it looks like the pr guy for the 'federal protective service' says they 'may not recover vision' and the editor of the rag in the op says they absolutely are blind for good. And, of course, probably every place the story is linked is probably using the editor's 'permanently blind' editorial.
