Police State: Veteran Pulled Over by Police 'Tank' In Florida [Video]...

Sheriff's deputies wearing uniforms that look like military surplus, driving an armored personnel carrier. Pulling over a crank for giving them the finger.

Why does a Sheriff's deputy need camo?

These are wannabes in dark sunglasses, treating a vet like an insurgent. Pathetic.

"Improper hand signal."

Too bad you can't bitch slap these wannabes.

Well said. They have to justify the absurd Taxpayer costs of their military gear and tanks. So they seek out confrontations with Citizens. The man was very smart to record. Otherwise, they probably would have beat the tar out of em.

It is not a tank..........It is a Humvee...........and the uniforms are military surplus.............

It is a program by the Government to use Military surplus vehicles and uniforms.........especially Kevlar surplus to save Taxpayer money in police departments across the country................

It's a better use than leaving the gear in Iraq.

The Pentagon gave nearly half a billion dollars of military gear to local law enforcement last year - The Washington Post

The 1033 program has transferred more than $4.3 billion in equipment since its inception in 1997. In 2013 alone it gave nearly half a billion dollars worth of military equipment to local law enforcement agencies, according to the program's website.

The program provides things like office equipment, tents, generators, pick-up trucks and ATVs, according to a PowerPoint presentation on its website. But law enforcement agencies can also use it to obtain military aircraft, weapons (including grenade launchers), and heavily armored tactical vehicles. You can see an example of one of these vehicles below, pictured in Ferguson (although it's unclear if local law enforcement there received the vehicle through the DOD program).

Ship them and their tanks over to Iraq to fight ISIS and Al Qaeda. They don't belong on American streets harassing Citizens. If they're so gung-ho for conflict, ship em off to Iraq. Good riddance.

No, it really is not. The police do not need to go around with military equipment - they are 2 VERY different jobs that require mentalities that are 180 degrees from each other. This military exists to KILL the enemy. Cops exist to protect the people and enforce law.

Their job description doesn't change because they no longer wear blue uniforms..............Nor does it change by driving a green humvee..........

It is a program to save money...............PERIOD............

Individual actions by individual police officers will still be the deciding factor in any situation............

Some are good, and some are bad..............Being Green changes this not one iota

LESO Homepage

The Law Enforcement Support Office(LESO), facilitates a law enforcment support program, which originated from the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 1997 (FY 97). This law allows transfer of excess Department of Defense property that might otherwise be destroyed to law enforcement agencies across the United States and its territories.
No equipment is purchased for distribution. All items were excess which had been turned in by military units or had been held as part of reserve stocks until no longer needed.

Since its inception, the program has transferred more than $5.4 billion worth of property. In 2014, $980 million worth of property (based on initial acquisition cost) was transferred to law enforcement agencies.

Requisitions cover the gamut of items used by America’s military -- clothing and office supplies, tools and rescue equipment, vehicles, rifles and others small arms. Of all the excess equipment provided through the program, only five percent are weapons and less than one percent are tactical vehicles.

There is no reason for a civilian police department to be using military equipment on American streets. Yet another tea party "small" government conservative bending over backwards to defend the growing police state.

Yes it is a big deal. Get the tanks and these douchebags off American streets. They wanna be in the Military, they should join up and head over to fight ISIS and Al Qaeda. We don't need them harassing American Citizens this way. It's Un-American.

Neocons are only 'small government' when it's convenient. Otherwise, they're just as much in favor of Big Government domination as Communists/Progressives are.

It is a way to safe money.................Taxpayer money.................

Police departments already buy Humvees...............If the Humvee was black or blue would it change anything...........If the police officer wore blue...........would he have still pulled over the man who they suspect getting a blow job while driving...............

It wouldn't have changed a thing..............If they were driving a dang HORSE and saw it...............or a mini-skirt......................

These police officers would have made the stop no matter the dress or what they are driving.

Get em off American streets. They wanna play soldier, let em join up and go fight ISIS and Al Qaeda. Stop harassing American Citizens. Period, end of story.

Why does a cop need an armored personnel carrier?

He doesn't.

Ha, Police tanks on the 'mean streets' of Gainseville, Fl. My God, what happened to our Country?
You are seeing the results of decades of conservative policies: police militarization due to the War on (some) Drugs, get tough on crime initiatives, the privitization of the prison system, the loss of privacy rights thanks to the "Patriot Act", etc.

More a combination of Big Government Communist/Progressive & Neo-Conservative policies. Both fully support Big Government domination. The Communists/Progressives could have abolished the Patriot Act at any time. But instead they made it even more oppressive. And they also gave us the NDAA. It's very sad.
This is the biggest disappointment of the Obama administration, IMHO. He should have ended this police state crap, but embraced it instead. In this respect, it's as if Bush never left.
