Better question would be what is obama doing to reduce the debt.

The ONLY way to reduce the debt is to lower the annual deficit below the line which increases debt,and that can ONLY be done by cutting the federal government, cutting revenue sharing with the states and by stopping the sale of T Bills.

How much of the debt is owed to foreign nations, and how much to American Citizens? Money is placed in T Bills because they are known to be safe., and while the interest is very low, banks interest payments are lower.

As for the consequences of the debt, it is not as if the national debt has a balloon payment due in five years, The only reason there is so much ballyhoo over the size of the debt is stupid people fall for the fear mongering. Now, I'm not suggesting having a large debt is good, but it is not the crisis made out to be by the Republicans - note, there was no hysterica over the debt wrong up by Reagan or Bush II except by a few real conservatives, not the CINO's who whine about it on this forum.
