President Obama Again Criticizes Trips to Las Vegas

Vegas is built upon waste.

Not to belittle the people that work there, but it is built upon wasteful principles and excesses.

So are video games, pornography, professional sports, Grammy's, Oscars, expensive restaurants, water parks, theme parks, etc etc etc....

Oh wait....they are all forms of entertainement.

So I guess you frown on entertainement that does not entertain you?

Or do you frown on ALL entertainment?

I believe that one does not have to spend big bucks to be entertained.
But that is contrary to the American way I suppose.

I believe that saving, paying off ones debts, sending the children to college, etc are far more important than a trip to Vegas or Disney World.

I can't imagine anyone would disagree with your comment, but hey ... we all know there are some ingorant self-centered idiots living in this country.

When I was a kid, five of us would go outside with a spalding ball and spend hours being entertained.
Nowadays, one is laughed at if he or she says "I got a new ball for my birthday"

I agree....our values have strayed.....but I have to admit....I love to play craps. I can afford it...I plan to lose. I play TILL I lose....I have a limit....and I am greatly entertained...and in return, I get a free room, free drinks...free dinner.

On the flip side, I will never go to a Jets game live and pay the money as I am equally entertained watching themon TV.

That is what I love about this country...I can entertain myself as I wish....

Sadly, some people feel they have the right to criticize what I do with my money. (not saying you).

Yes you do have that right.
Send me money and I will send you a vid of me dancing naked in a field of nettles.
it will require lots of money though.

Often times yes. Many also used their equity in their homes to buy boats and such.
Now they may owe more on their home than it is worth.

Just what do you mean "should be applied to their children's education"?

Really why do people believe it's the parents responsibility to pay for the education of their adult children?

If parents want to do something with their money other than pay for their adult childrens' college education what fucking business is it of the government or anyone else?

In fact most financial advisers will tell you that if you're not saving 20% of your gross income towards retirement, you shouldn't even think about contributing to a college fund.

It's none of your business or Obama's business what people do with their money

then why not state that from the get go instead of just calling someone a hack?

at least Obama is trying to help this country with the money. You may not think it is, and that's fine, but at least his motives are better than spending on war and destruction, in the guise of "security".

his only motive as far as i can see is to be reelected.

and you are a hack, imo.
I support some republican stuff, and don't blindly agree with everything Obama does. may seem I'm a hack because of all the stupid , petty bullshit we hear about him and I criticize. But the stpuid criticism like you see ib this thread points out the true hacks. Disingenuous people are the ones that are blaring hacks.

I'll hear legitimate criticism of Obama, like criticism of his spending or policies, not like this thread is and the vast majority of Obama bashing threads. LIke Rahm should be fired for an off the cuff remark, that's another one. If he did something clearly unethical and wrong, then that's a reason for firing, not PC bullshit reasons. That's just scraping the bottom of the barrel to continue to demonize Obama and his admin, and its pretty pathetic

Considering you call everybody a hack that appears liberal, I'd say you are the hack here.

good for you

And he made suggestions, didn't specifically intrude on anybody's spending. He didnt' state any laws, mandates, etc, he made a comment

and his largest criticism was the companies that got bail out money, and I think if they got bailout money, they shouldn't be spending it on luxuries until they pay it back.

Spending equity on ones home to buy a boat is a way to get your home equity to enhance your life now...and not a bad idea if you are responsible. It is a matter of understanding the cost of money and capitalizing on fluctuations in interest rates.

I have the credit to buy a boat tomorrow...and I almost did last August...but I reconsidered when I reviewed my business projections for 2010...and glad I did by the way.

However, my plan was to use my equity line and not a boat loan as my equity line offered prime less 1 rates compared to a boat loan that was nearly 6%.......

What people need to understand is not all actions are irresponsible....and if everyone put thought into their actions, they may not act irresponsibly.

But going back to the debate.....do you feel those that have the credit to buy a boat should be lectured by the president? Do you feel the real irresponsible people who can barely feed their family's thanks to their irresponsibility thought he was talking to them?

The best way to get through to the listener is to let them see that they are the ones you are speaking to......but I gurantee you most that are the "culprits" of fiscasl irresponsibility walked away shaking their heads saying "when are those rich bastards gonna learn"...

Just a hypothesis on my part.

The point is that it's none of Obama's business how we spend our money, and he should not discourage tourism to Vegas, because that's a vital part of their economy.

A business convention is not necessarily a luxury.

And I would bet that a convention in Vegas would be cheaper than one in New York City.

He said that months ago...all agreed...and the companies stopped as they should have.

This week he addressed people...individuals....and all I am saying is make sure those that need to hear him...HEAR HIM.

People tend to believe one who is reprimanding is reprimanding the "other guy"....

The irresponsible that can afford boats are not living off the government...they may be irresponsible....but they can not get assistance...or they could not get the credit for a boat.

In the meantime, the ones he SHOULD be speaking to are not hearing them becuase all they are saying is "Yeah, right...like I can afford a boat....he is talking to those rich bastards...."

Maybe I am wrong....but can you disagree that most assume those being reprimanded for doing something THEY HAVE NOT DONE is talking to the other guy?

It is when it gets widespread enough to impact the entire economy.

No offense...but read what you wrote.

It can be saiud this way as well....

Becuase people are irresponsible the government must step in and prevent them from being irresponsible, even at the risk of inhibiting the responsible....becuase being irresponsible may result in an economic mess.

You do realize that it leads to...well....I wont even say it......but it is something you need to realize.

I say one thing...ALWAYS.....and I live by it...ALWAYS...

The system can not screw you unless you opt to capitalize on the system.

You dont want the irresponsible to have an affect on you? DO not try to have your money make money for you by investing in risky investments.

You do not wnat the unbscrupulous to take advangtage of you? Read all before you sign.

You do not want to be affected by unbscrupulous lending practices? DO not borrow or make sure you read before you sign.

OR....

Lose control of your deciusion making and let the government make decisions for you.

What he said.

You are not and cannot be responsible for someone else's poor choices. It is not you place nor the government's place to interfere with an individual's financial decisions.

Sooner or later those that make poor decisions will be forced to change their habits and they will as long as the consequences to those habits are dire enough.

so why should I pay taxes to educate their children?
If they can't afford to educate them too bad. They should not have had them.
It was their choice.

Same principle involved. To make it better for everyone?
