President Trump Vetos Congress' Rebuke of Border Order

What say you?

  • His Border Emergency Order Should Stand. Most Americans don't like problems the open border caused.

  • His Border Emergency Order Should Not Stand.

  • Neither one. Explained Below

  • No opinion.

Results are only viewable after voting.
Flanked by law enforcement officials as well as the parents of children killed by people in the country illegally, Trump maintained that he is not through fighting for his signature campaign promise, which stands largely unfulfilled 18 months before voters decide whether to grant him another term. Trump said: "It is a tremendous national emergency," adding, "our immigration system is stretched beyond the breaking point."

Trump issues first veto after rebuke of border order

Trump now becomes the first POTUS to use the power of the national emergency to override the will of Congress. The door this opens up will never be closed again if this stands. IF something that has been going on for more than 30 years constitutes an emergency, then there is nothing that does not.

More contracts for continuing border wall/barrier building go out in the next few days.
Seems to me it is standing.

It will still end up at SCOTUS.

And with Roberts it's completely up in the air

Assuming the Senate does not act to protect congressional power from an executive power grab what will Trump try to do next with his brand-new imperial power? There will be a next you can bet your ass.

Even more importantly is what will the next POTUS grab with this new power to override and ignore congress? This is a dangerous door to open for anyone that thinks all 3 branches of government are supposed to be equal in power.

"Even more importantly is what will the next POTUS grab with this new power to override and ignore congress? "

So it is your deeply considered opinion that Democrats would never break the law, or precedent, or protocol, without being shown how to do it?

No, it is my deeply considered opinion that once a door is open it is never closed again and things just get worse the next time.

you partisan morons are always happy as fuck when you party does it first, then you will be whining like the 12 year old you are when the other party does it even bigger.

Are you thinking like in a gun grab?
Try 'dat!

the list is endless. The power of the executive branch has grown exponentially over the last 2 decades. Congress keeps giving up its power and responsibilities and the partisan sheep voters keep allowing them to do so.

Oooo.....that hurt.

But, true.

May I insert here, there is absolutely no constitutional requirement for a President to follow a Supreme Court decision.

I have faith that he will rule in favor of the Constitution and not the POTUS...but as you said one never knows

Congress can still override the veto if they have the will.

They also need to concurrently fix the law so the next president will not be tempted.
