Correct, but it is about more than oil, it's also about natural gas. Russia supplies the EU with about half of the EU's natural gas needs. Iran has second largest natural gas reserve behind Russia and can match Russia's output to the EU. Iran already has pipelines into Turkey and is now in the process of building the infrastructure to boost capacity. Why else would the US do a 180 spin on Iran unless it played into other geopolitical strategies.
