I hope you just mean the largest mass surrender in this war only, not in Russian history.

I think in WWII something like 3 million Russians surrendered to the Germans. For many it was a bad decision as due to such a large number, the Germans committed war crimes and murdered so many because they couldn't feed them etc.

Great point! a total of 620,000 healthy Soviet soldiers fought in Afghanistan over 10 years from December 1979 – Feb 1989. Muscovite losses in Ukraine should exceed Soviet deployments to Afghanistan by mid-January 2025...
