Q: What food defines American culture?

American food is every food from around the world - of course.

Yes but.....
Hamburgers are actually an American invention. A guy in Connecticut invented them. He put them on toasted white bread; they were square. Back in the early 1900's I think.

And everything corn based. I LOVE corn about any which way, including cornbread and grits and corn on the cob and corn casserole all gooed up with cheddar cheese sauce and a hint of nutmeg, topped with some crunchy bread crumbs.

And whoever said pumpkin pie is right. Pumpkins were also native to North America. I hear before the colonists made pie they scooped out the seeds, filled it with cream (and if they had any, spices) and baked the whole thing til it was soft. Then they served it straight out of the shell.
